meditation; educate me
    #5494550 - 04/08/06 08:46 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

ok well recently i have become very interested in meditation, as i have tried to fully understand religion and things of that nature without much success, is there any way meditation could help me better understand the universe/myself? what exactly is meditation used for? i know it is just the act of keeping a silent mind without any thoughts at all, but that is pretty much all i know and i am interested in learning more.  i know i should just do some research, but its really late and im going to bed, so i figured i could post this and check back in the morning instead of staying up late researching

thank you very much for any help you can give me

from what i know its more about learning focus, the keeping silent part is just one method of training your focus.

i like breathing better.

First calm your mind, get rid of 'your' thoughts to make is as clear as possible (samatha)
Then your mind is ready to properly focus on any 'thing' or 'concept', may it be internal or external (vipassana).
You can learn it by yourself, listening into you, but there are many links on how to do it, too.
