what do you think about dehydrated manure & organic humus added to casing mix?
    #5494115 - 04/08/06 06:36 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

 PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE POST BEFORE REPLYING>> THANK YOU !!
my current casing consists of..
50% sphagnum moss and 50% vermiculite + a small amount of lime to bring the PH to 7. This current setup has already proved itself worthy to me as a casing mix..
My question is.. How does everyone feel about mixing in an already prepared dehydrated manure & organic humus mix into my current casing mix of 50% sphagnum moss and 50% vermiculite? Can anyone tell me if adding the manure is a positive thing or a negative thing.

If you answered yes to the question above, how much manure/humus should I add to my current mix,How should I prepare the manure? How should the manure/humus be sterilized? (microwaved?, pressure cooked? if so how long?) Is there greater risk of contamination using the manure?

Is it possible to just use the manure/humus as my primary casing mix? Please tell me as much of your personal experience's with manure and any tips. I am casing tonight.. I need as much input as possible.

If your answer to the question above is no, why and is there any use for the manure

Please let me know.. Hopefully you read all of this.

THANKS SOOOOO MUCH YOU ALL HAVE BEEN HELPING ME SOOO MUCH!!

The casing layer should be non-nutrients materials, so I would think that the hpoo would be out of the question.

Though I dont know about Humus

I remember reading in TMC about SAC (supplementation at casing) I remember him stating yield increase of 50%+. I'm somewhat surprised more people dont do it...
