why is it that my 50/50+ casing mix always seem to get covered in pure white myc? I take it out of the incubator as soon as i see myc popping through and innitiate pinning as u do. I have 3 casings now looking like there on the way to overlay....... they been in FCabout 8 days now........ Is this becasue the coir has nutrients in and the myc is thinking it is a substate and continuing veg growth instead of fruiting?, Do u think it would help if i changed the amount of verm to coir say 60 % verm 40% coir??? im not sure whatim doing wrong all is good in myFC as ive had sucsess with casings in there already temp and FAE are ok ??
anyone else have problems likethis? what am i doin wrong?
any help much appresiated.....heres a pic.....

they are WBS spawned to H/poo cased with 50/50+ oki...

The 50/50+ casing tek is for PEAT based casing mixes. That's 50% verm and 50% PEAT (pH corrected) plus oyster shell.
I've only used coir when mixed with verm/peat in a casing at about 20%. I didn't even like that compared to regular peat and verm. Coir makes a terrible casing layer because of it's tenancy to cause overlay.
My suggestion Start making your casing mix out of peat and verm. You can use powdered oyster shell for a pretty fool proof way to correct the pH of the mix.

I would just put a lower ratio of coir in. 50/50 is way too much. You need to drop your coir to at least 40% if not 30%. I usually go with somethign in between there and I make sure to rinse the coir very well in a strainer. That should help you out a bit.

Do a search. I have dedicated a HUGE thread and controlled experiment showing that coco coir is not suitable for a casing for the exact reason you found. When you do research search for and read the people that have logs showing spectacular results before you follow them. Very few of the experts are using coco coir anymore. A few are but the majority are not for the exact reason you found.

If you want to try something really advanced, go with 60% Uni-gro Cactus mix with 40% vermiculite. It must be the Uni-gro brand, though, because I haven't seen any testing with anything else. I will soon write up my report of this stuff, but so far, it looks like the best casing soil I have ever seen for Pan Cyans. But the jury is still out. It certain has worked for some guys like Waylitjim. Hop over to www.mycotopia.com sometime and do a search for Waylitjim's pan cyan grows. You'll see.
