cakes stuck in jars!

so i dunked my cakes in their original jars, maybe not the best method cause i think they swelled up a bit and now i cant get them out. 1/2 pint jars, the tall ones, not wide mouth. does anyone have a trick for this or do i just wait till they dry out a little and try again?

You need to take the jar and slam it down on a tabletop, a phone book, something solid that will force the cake out, with the lid facing down. It won't just slide out of those tall jars--takes a little force. I started with the 1/2 pint Kerr jars, and that is one reason they aren't the best for cakes--they also colonize slower. Dunking in the jar is fine, though, and dunking is a proven rehydration method. Get them out of the jars and fruiting. GL.

Sterlize something and try poking that into the cake and forcing it out...
like a fork.
I never had this problem with tall 1/2 pint jars.
weird!~

Sterilize something flat, such as a butter knife. Gently insert it just below the very edge of the cake, and using a sawing motion, very gently go around the whole jar, careful not to go deep at all. This should help relieve the suction and maybe it will slip out.
Good luck! I wish you well!

yeah so this is a total setback, the knife thing worked minimally, the fork thing took a chunk outta the bottom of the cake, and i ended up fucking the whole thing into about 5 pieces to get it out. so i piled those on top of each other and put em in the fruiting chamber hoping its not a total loss. the rest of the batch is gonna have to sit untill they shrivel up enough to come out. soo has anyone else ever had this problem or are my cakes just retarded?

I think you should case just go ahead, crumble themn all up and case them. You'll have a bigger yield and its really not hard. You can use straight vermiculite if you don'T want to go and get any othe ingredients. with the one you took out you seem to be half way there anyway.

I literally took a hammer to the jar without hitting the cakes. Just dunked them now. Hopefully they turn out ok. Lol.

I imagine these ppl in these old threads getting an email saying someone replied to their post… their kids are all grown up, starting to have kids of their own… that cake is probably still stuck in that damn jar.. it’s all grown up starting to have little cakes of their own

Maybe this persons first post is an actual 15 years later update on what happened. Dude had to make a new account cause he knew we were all holding our breath (probably just picking up where they left off). Frankly that'd be cool if it was that. Some real follow through. The highlighted part is off for that story though unless the OP had jars sitting for 15 years.
