I've never understood why people rag on being a doctor so much. I think being a doctor would be so awesome and hardly a poor fulfillment to life. I think he's referring to people who only became doctors out of social pressure, rather than following their true dreams. Being a doctor is an admirable profession in itself, but it's not for everyone. You shouldn't commit to any career that you don't have a passion for, and medicine is a stereotypical profession for parents to live vicariously through their children.
It's just an example.
