Could someone ID these please
    #5488971 - 04/07/06 04:49 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I found these in a pine forest in New Zealand and am interested in what species they are. The last pic is of the juvenile form (I assume, as they were found very near the mature ones and no other species were present in the immediate area). I hope these pics are reasonable for an ID. Other points to note are:

Spore print: brown (cinnamon coloured)
Cap size: 1-1.5 inches
Gills: white, although they turned a brownish colour several hours after being picked
Stem: ~5mm diameter, quite sturdy, bruised brown

Many thanks

Those look like Inocybes to me. I have seen a species locally (Colorado) that also has pure white gills when young. If you take several of them and cup them in your hands to concentrate their odor then sniff they have an unusual and unpleasant odor.

Inocybes are difficult to identify to species. They require a microscope for accurate identification.

All of them should be considered poisonous. Most species that have been tested have high, potentially dangerous levels of muscarine.

Happy mushrooming!

nice ID request with the descriptions and clear, large pics and all; Unlike most other people, with the "hey i found a mushroom, what is it?" Every ID request should be like yours. Cool finds too.
