Cake life?

Just wondering if there are any negative effects of leaving a cake for any significant time beyond 100% colonization?
Say I have 50% of my cakes that colonized within 2 weeks, and the other 50% look like they need 3-4 weeks, assuming I had to process them all at the same time, is there a problem with leaving the colonized cakes sitting around?

There can be but they could still be fine, why do you need to put them in the terrarium at the same time?

I've kept them in the TiT for a few weeks and they started to produce myc piss and eventually when I got around to spawning them (this was WBS btw) they didn't work.

Well, roughly how long is it safe to leave a fully colonized cake sitting around?
And what are the potential threats?

Takes longer for the spawn to start into the bulk in some cases

I know what you mean, I had inoced. 12 substrate jars and 3 had been 100% colonized within 2 weeks. I wanted to be sure that all the jars were handled the same...so I left the fully colonized jars sit until the others were ready to birth...BAD IDEA...not only did the first colonized jars not fruit properly, but I had to deal with contams for some reason. I am still stumped as to why my colonized jars were contamed, but waiting isn't an excellent idea IMHO...I dunno, just check out what others have to say...maybe they have the same experiences...?

Just use them at their peak if at all possible. Nothing more to say really.

After a cake's spent - put it into the 1/2 pint that you got it from with water on the sides of the jar and lid (mist it before closing it). Put this someplace where it will get plenty of light and not be too warm. Sit it upside down on the lid and it may even produce 1-2 grams dry in the next four flushes (consisting one or two mushies each). Then it's truly used up.

You asking if it's OK for half your jars to wait two weeks before fruiting while the others finish?
Yup. It's fine.
I will agree tho, I've noticed jars that I let sit around in the incubator fully colonized for a few weeks were slow to colonize the manure when I finally got around to spawning them. (wbs)
Your cakes should be fine. I'd personally rather just fruit them all at the same time too. It's cooler.
