Was Marijuana legalized during the Carter era?

I remember it crystal clear that's that what it said in the movie "Grass". I told someone about it the other day, and the person was extremely skeptical, so I tried to find an alternate source with no avail.
Can anyone back me up/prove me wrong?

Your only evidence is a movie called "Grass"?

Carter advocated legalization(or at least decriminalization), but as history will tell you, he was one of the most ineffectual presidents we've ever had. Thus, while he had noble goals, he didn't actually accomplish shit.

What 'evidence'?
I said I heard it and wanted to know the factual data, I'm not making a case for the Supreme Court ruling.
@paradigm: I'm going to keep looking, are you 100% sure on this?

Marijuana was not legalized in the US during the Carter era. That's why you have been unable to find any backup for the claim made in that movie -- it is a bogus claim.
As for Carter "advocating" the legalization of marijuana, that's more than a bit of a stretch as well. He was once asked his opinion on the matter (not even sure he was asked during the time he was president) and replied he thought we'd be better off if it weren't illegal. However, as president he certainly made no effort to introduce any legislation to that effect.
***edit*** Now that I think about this a bit more, I believe he may have made that remark about decriminalizing marijuana in a speech in his first year as president, not as a response to a question in an interview. Be that as it may, he never took any action to modify existing drug legislation.

marijuana wasnt actually legalized under carter..but it might as well have been...
one off-topic question that will give phred a good laugh (but is still worth asking)..is whether or not carters' liberal drug policy might have contributed to hyperinflation during the same period...we know now that this was not the result of spiralling oil prices...

Tell that to the tens of thousands who got busted for marijuana in the US between January 1977 and January 1981.

"Grass", for those that haven't seen it is a movie on the history of the drug. Woody Harrelson (the man in Natural Born Killers) narrates it, and it's a pretty informative view. I do remember the film saying that it was legalized in the 70's with Carter, so it's either the film being off, or my memory pulling tricks, the latter probably being true.
Responses appreciated, guys.

I'm pretty sure it's your memory pulling tricks. Jimmy Carter's rhetoric was sympathetic to decriminalization, so I imagine the film might have covered that. But he never legalized it.
