Do these appear to be P. Subbalteatus?

Good afternoon. I happened upon these in a grass field near my house (2000 ft. elevation, 65 degrees, mostly sunny). They were on and near manure. The larger caps are just over 1 inch in diameter. As you can see, the stalks are of medium thickness, covered in small white hairs, forming vertical lines, near the cap especially. The spore print from these appears to be black.

Sorry about the sub-par image quality- I have had to borrow another camera, as mine is on loan at the moment...

i've seen alot of subs from studying and those really dont look like them. the caps should be more deformed and wavy. the stipe should be more fiberous. is the spore print jet black? if it's jet black and i mean black. how long are you leaving the cap on the paper for a spore print? you have to give it atleast 24 hours. doing a quicky gives minimal help. yours are most likley panaeolina forniesecii.

They definitely look like Panoleus of some kind, and the stem description fits. The gills also have that whitish fringe like subs do. But the top of the cap doesn't have that ringed look like subbs do. Make sure the spore print is really black, and wait and see what some of the site's experts think.
Check out this link: http://www.impakt.net/~tyler/subbs/
It is mostly correct but I think they were perhaps wrong about the gills of subbs never hanging below the cap.

Hmmm... Inconclusive so far... The spore print is developing into a strong black as far as I can tell. I'll try to catch a pic after a while...After reading the article, I am actually more inclined to say they ARE subbs. There may be some blueing on the mycelium at the base of one of the stems.

Thanks for the feedback... It seems they are likely to be subbs...There were a few other caps growing where I collected these. I'm going to see what I can harvest over the next few weeks...

What's really confusing is when the subbs have really thin stems, and appear not to be subbs. I think there are some sub types still yet to be identified and classed here in GA

They look like subbs judging from the one twisty stem, lines approaching gills and pockmarks in the cap. Go back and get some more and you'll have enough for a wonderful trip!

This morning I wandered out into the same area and discovered MANY more in a large cluster about 100 yards away. I now have about 25 caps, 5 around 1.5 inches in diameter. All of the new ones were coming up in manure. It's odd, it almost seems as if the sphinctrinus patches are fading away in the warmer weather, and the subbalteatus seem to be coming in strong...

37 and counting. They are definitely coming in strong at this point. We are supposed to have another week's worth of showers soon, so I would imagine that the fruiting will continue...

Thanks... Likewise, I am constantly impressed with the depth and consistant nature of your advice, eris. Hunting is quite an addictive pasttime... I want to share knowledge, and I am hoping to compose a listing (with photographs) of the mushroom species that appear in this particular micro-region. This poses quite a challenge, as I am still finding new species all the time...

Hey, be sure to let us know if you try eating any of these - trip report, how you prepared them, how much you ate etc. And again, great finds.
