maybe i need to be more patient but you tell me.
I dunked my cake about 5 days ago and I see no pins yet. I have it in my terrarium with humidity at 95% and temp at 75 degrees F. I see light patch of blueish color on the outside of the cake but it does NOT resemble mold. It looks like the blueish marks you get when you pick the mushrooms.. What is taking so long? IS this right?
thanks for the help !!
ALSO!! I have a few other cakes in a separate terrarium with the same non pinning problem but these have NO Blueish tint on the outside..

The bluish tint could be due to bruising if you've handled that cake more than usual, or roughly. Then again, it could be mold. If you cakes aren't pinning after 5 days, well, there's only 1 thing you can do. Wait longer. Did you cold shock? I had a couple cakes a month or so ago that took nearly 2 weeks to start pinning after being dunked. After the first 5 days, I cold shocked, and about 6 or 7 days later pins formed. Strangely, both those cakes had between 2 and 3 more flushes than the cakes that started pinning within a few days. Hope that helps.

yes i cold shocked them the 1st day.. yea.. i think its bruising.. def not mold.. i know what that looks like..
So what are the chances of the cakes not pinning at all if everything else seems right?
thanks

They'll probably be fine. When you dunked them was that right when they were done colonizing? I wouldn't worry about it. Fully colonized cakes are hard to contaminate, and as long as they have water and air they're gonna produce some mushrooms. If it's bruising blue, it may be because it's lost alot of water. More than likely though it's from the handling while you were dunking it. Just be patient. It should be ok.
