Sterilizing syringes?!

Hey, After having several problems with getting the correct conditions in our terrarium we are finally producing a good deal of boomers. Since, I have a limited amount of spores. I decided to try and recreate some spore syringes. I understand that with creating these that sterility is the key as with any thing regaurding the growth of mushrooms. So far, I picked a beautiful mushroom right after its viel tore. I took a half pint jar, sterilized it, and covered up the holes with tape. I put the cap in there and it is starting to print. Here is my question. How should I sterilize my old syringes? Should I use a pressure cooker? or just boil them? I have a pressure cooker that stabablizes at about 17 psi. I really don't want to have them melt in my cooker so I would like to be informed on exactly what I should do. Thanks for your imput. Have a good one.

Diregard the rep from 'the little guy'. He doesn't answer cuz he doesn't know and just tells everyone to 'look it up' as a sad excuse to post his sig. Here's your answer: Take your syringe apart and let it soak in warm soapy water for a while. This will loosen up any dirt or old spores in your syringe. Use some tissue to clean the groove in the rubber plunger end.....you'll find tons of old spores stuck there. Now take a quarter sized piece of tissue and push it into the barrel with the plunger. Twist it around to clean the bottom. Now pc all the parts for just a few minutes and reassemble with clean hands or gloves. It's best to do this procedure just before making the new syringes. Let the newly cleaned and sterilized syringes cool first, it only takes a few minutes.

nobodycares42 is not "the little guy" Anyways, I just PC mine for 20min at 15PSI with a 1/2pint of water and then suck up that water while it is still hot. CMM's tek. seems good too. I've only ever had one melt in the microwave for a little over 2.5 minutes. Peace.

Or try this, put them into the boiling pot with the jar for a while, then remove and suck the boiling water in and out a couple times to get the inside sterile. It works well.

>Now pc all the parts for just a few minutes and reassemble >with clean hands or gloves. It's best to do this procedure >just before making the new syringes. I tend to disagree. It?s better if you reassemble the syringes BEFORE you pressure cook them for 15 minutes, this way you don?t have to handle them after pressure cooking and the remain sterile 100%.

The secret is to have a sterile room, like you have No, really, trust me, if you assemble the syringe beforehand, it?s less chance of contamination.

All that seems like a lot of work to me......all i do is boil water for several minutes, then suck it up in the syringe and shoot it out. I do that several times (4-5 times, and purge it out slowly) then I suck some of the boiling water in the syringe one last time and wait til it get's room temp. b4 i add any spores. Haven't had a single problem yet!

Contrary to what everyone else says, go to the drugstore and buy some new syringes. I bought 50 5cc syringes for just under $5. They might look at you like yer on heroine or something, but who the hell cares, eh.
