I have been the shepherd for this flock all year. They were tiny in the winter, but when spring weather came, they really started to boom. They are growing on an old rotten hardwood stump. The climate zone is 9 and area is south tx. I hope the pics are enough to ID them... Thanks

Huge history over millenia especially if yours as it appears very possible is Fomitopsis (Fomes) pinicola usually on conifers but not always(usually helps to distinguish them as they age as most usually emerge white or very light colered when young).....used as usual for antiviral, etc. and probably curing every thing from hang nails to brain cancer.....another F. officianalis was huge market years ago as Quinine substitute for malaria treatment since found devoid.....these fungi are available in many different forms on market now as a medicinal.....Heterobasidion (Fomes) annosum can also at times appear similiar to yours.........another abundant polypore in the wild and if Im not mistaken commands the bulk of sales and research of the medicinal mushroom market is " Coriolus (Trametes) versicolor (and about ten other names) or better known as "Turkey Tail" is very easily distinguishable in the wild and that stuff grows everywhere.
