Myecelium dead. :( Can i re-pressure cook and re-inoculate?
    #5486030 - 04/06/06 10:29 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hello. I was trying to make a new incubator (adjusting settings) and i think i fried my mycelium... i donno though, some have growth most dont (been a week and a half) and the growth on the ones that have it (little tiny strips) hasnt grown in about 5-6 days... and its greyish white now, not rhizomorphic at all.

Yes i waited for the jars to cool off before initial inoculation.

So... can i re-pressure cook the jars, re-inoculate, and make use of about 18 uncolonized or barely colonized jars? Just curious about input.. Thanks!

Jars (with no tape or foil over holes) in a tupperware with lid on, with about 15 or so 1/3 inch holes across the top under the lid (aliens incubator). That tupperware sits in water in a bigger tupperware that has a water heater heated now to 80 degrees...

Im going to try drilling holes in the top of the big one too for optimal air flow.

Sound iffy?

The dead mycelium would have used up a portion of the jars nutrients, which could starve new growth. Also, as it decays, the dead mycelium will alter the PH balance and may make the jars more susceptible to contamination. You could try, but you'd probably just be wasting spores.
