Does anyone else hate these bands as much as I do?
Well, hate's too strong a word. I don't hate them.
I just don't understand why for so many people they're ideal trip music.

After work I head home, then go to El Nuevo Amancer to pick up margaritas to go - they make them WAY strong there. Drink em on the way to the game, first pitch at 7:05.
Should be a great game!! I get to see Pedro pitch, Soriano not run top speed, David Wright being his awesome self, and Ryan Zimmerman working on Rookie of the Year.

I'm with you on the Rush, not a big fan. I am just starting to get into Yes however, so I gotta disagree with you there and call you kinda crazy. What do you think of King Crimson?

King Crimson's coo.
Yes' music is all right but the lyrics are just annoying.

Oh okay, yeah I can see how the lyrics could get grating in some songs. Hehe there's one song where there are maybe 4 different simultaneous lyrics being sung and it's really disorienting.

I don't mind wordy lyrics at all...I think Maynard pulls that off real well, especially on Lateralus.
But YES just seems so overly wordy and preachy in a way.

yes is OK. rush just reminds me of the 'trailer park boys' episode where bubbles wants to go see rush
there are a lot of "prog rock" bands that are much better than either of those two, though (King Crimson, Camel, ELP, Gentle Giant, Magma, to name a few)

I'm partial to Alan Parsons Project when it comes to prog rock. Soo cheesy and good. Games people play, well you take it or you leave it!
(Right now I'm obsessed with Art Brut. Modern Art! Makes me! Want to rock out!)

alan parsons project is cool.
i've approached prog rock much more from the fusion side of things, so really dig mahavishnu orchestra/john mclaughlin type stuff. but, in my mind, no band ever beat out Camel as far as archetypal prog-rock.
i'd upload some stuff, but am at work and don't have my harddrives here

I can dig a Rush tune now and then, but not Yes.
I don't think I would listen to either of them for trip music.

Well, naturally you had to expect TM to chime in here somewhere...
I like SOME Rush, not all... I'm picky... Until you've heard Moving Pictures on 4+ grams of shrooms, please don't judge too harshly. A lot of people can't get past Geddy Lee's voice which can sound screechy when you're straight, but oh so soothing when you're tripping face. If you want to avoid Geddy's voice altogether, just listen to YYZ... Nobody else can play it but Rush.
As for YES, well, two songs will never cease to blow my mind for tripping... "I've Seen All Good People" and "Roundabout".
-------------------- ================================================ "Have some congratulatory drugs." - C. Montgomery Burns I'll probably always do drugs, so that just contributes to the addiction to The Shroomery... It's a vicious circle of bliss. TM™

I gotta add my input.... I can't stand Rush. They were completely overplayed on the local rock station I grew up with and just got tired of hearing those same guitar licks and that dudes voice....
YES, however..... is seriously one of my favorite bands of all time. I have several of their older albums and listen to them frequently. Yes' music is incredibly layered with so many different parts all interacting with each other and the harmony of their voice parts never fails t blow me away.
I saw Yes at Red Rocks last summer on a few g's of mush and it was spectacular. I've never been more satisfied or happy with a complete concert as I was that night. It was also soooooo fucking loud, but absolutely crystal clear.... no distortion feedback or sound problems at all.
I like Yes. A lot And I don't give a damn what anybody on the internet has to say about it, either

RUSH - Overplayed "Classic Rock". They have some great music, but most is commonly known to everyone....
Yes - Underrated "Classic Rock". Who can't totally enjoy Chris Squire? Many a band member has used this influentual bassist at propelling their own desires in music (I doubt Metal would exsist as it does today without him!!!). Many a bassist denote him as "one of the greats". Bill is a great drummer by far, and highly complimented by Squires melodic bass work), Andersons vocals aint to bad, albeit not the heavy stuff we are used to these days. Overall, a damn great band.
Cheers, Psilly

I LOVE YES. Not all of their songs, but some of the lyrics really play with my imagination and inspire me. I listened to 'The Best of Yes' while on 4 grams of shrooms and it completely took me to a new dimension, just the way the lyrics played with my mind, tantalizing and speaking to me.
Rush...not great trip music for me...I listened to some Rush during my shroom trip yesterday and while I like a lot of their music while sober, while shrooming it just kinda annoyed me a little.
Anyway. Yes. I do love Yes.

Roundabout (Yes) is a really good song. Whilst tripping, it's a whole new and even better song

I love yes, siberian khatru, heart of the sunrise and long distance runaround are all my favorite songs by them. As for rush, I fucking hate them.

Well, hate's too strong a word. I don't hate them.
I just don't understand why for so many people they're ideal trip music.
I can deal with Yes .. ive only heard that one song thank god
I can't stand Rush. I won't say anyone's music is bad because it's just not my think, but AHHHH DEAR GOD!
