RUSH and YES

Does anyone else hate these bands as much as I do?
Well, hate's too strong a word. I don't hate them.
I just don't understand why for so many people they're ideal trip music.

I concur.
When do you leave for the game?

After work I head home, then go to El Nuevo Amancer to pick up margaritas to go - they make them WAY strong there. Drink em on the way to the game, first pitch at 7:05.
Should be a great game!! I get to see Pedro pitch, Soriano not run top speed, David Wright being his awesome self, and Ryan Zimmerman working on Rookie of the Year.

I'm with you on the Rush, not a big fan. I am just starting to get into Yes however, so I gotta disagree with you there and call you kinda crazy. What do you think of King Crimson?

King Crimson's coo.
Yes' music is all right but the lyrics are just annoying.

Oh okay, yeah I can see how the lyrics could get grating in some songs. Hehe there's one song where there are maybe 4 different simultaneous lyrics being sung and it's really disorienting.

I don't mind wordy lyrics at all...I think Maynard pulls that off real well, especially on Lateralus.
But YES just seems so overly wordy and preachy in a way.
goobs: ?

yes is OK. rush just reminds me of the 'trailer park boys' episode where bubbles wants to go see rush
there are a lot of "prog rock" bands that are much better than either of those two, though (King Crimson, Camel, ELP, Gentle Giant, Magma, to name a few)

I'm partial to Alan Parsons Project when it comes to prog rock. Soo cheesy and good. Games people play, well you take it or you leave it!
(Right now I'm obsessed with Art Brut. Modern Art! Makes me! Want to rock out!)

alan parsons project is cool.
i've approached prog rock much more from the fusion side of things, so really dig mahavishnu orchestra/john mclaughlin type stuff. but, in my mind, no band ever beat out Camel as far as archetypal prog-rock.
i'd upload some stuff, but am at work and don't have my harddrives here

Amen to that!
Speaking of Maynard, did you see that video of him from the 80s on Youtube that was posted yesterday?

ozric tentacles have always been a bit too much for me - like too many keyboard parts at once, it hurts my mind. i've got a friend who is big into them, and from whom i copied a ton of their stuff, though

Yeah, I too also think they kick ass. I only have Visions of the Emerald Beyond, but I hear their other albums are quite impressive.
