I've been meaning to watch it for quite some time, people are always mentioning it.

I thought it was entertaining, but overall pretty stupid, especially the end where they are talking all that bullshit. I have heard it has a pretty huge cult following though, so what do I know?

Badass movie. I'm pretty sure it got kicked out of theatres like the third day of presentation, so not too many people know that much about it.

Oh man, I'm surprised by how man people HAVEN'T seen this flick. I'm part of the Boondock Flock. The action and dialogue in this movie is awesome and you have to take the story with a grain of salt, but anyone who grew up in or around Southie in Boston knows that this movie isn't too far off.
Unfortunately Boondock Saints wasn't released in theatres because the producers were being whiney pussies. The flick was supposed to be released around 2000 or 2001 in theatres, but that was around the time of all the school shootings. So the producers were hesitant about releasing a violent film into theatres at that time. Bastards.
Enjoy the film, it's incredible.

You should see the documentary "Overnight" if you haven't yet. It's all about Troy Duffy, the guy who wrote and directed Boondock Saints, and his struggle to get Miramax to properly promote and distribute the film, which they didn't do because Troy didn't really know how to work the Hollywood big wigs, but seemed to think he could make them do whatever he wanted.
Anyway its a really incredible documentary and if you're into the Boondock Saints you should see this movie for real.

excerpt: Connor: [picking out weapons and gear] Do ya know what we need, man? Some rope. Murphy: Absolutely. What are you, insane? Connor: No I ain't. Charlie Bronson's always got rope. Murphy: What? Connor: Yeah. He's got a lot of rope strapped around him in the movies, and they always end up using it. Murphy: You've lost it, haven't ya? Connor: No, I'm serious. Murphy: That's stupid. Name one thing you'd need a rope for. Connor: You don't fuckin' know what you're gonna need it for. They just always need it. Murphy: What's this 'they' shit? This isn't a movie. Connor: Oh, right. [picks up large knife out of Murphy's bag] Connor: Is that right, Rambo? Murphy: All right. Get your stupid fuckin' rope. Connor: I'll get my stupid rope. I'll get it. There's a rope right there.

The Boondock Saints was given a theatrical release; however, it was extremely limited (it showed in five US theaters for one week). Fans of the film speculate the film was never released in theaters due to the Columbine High School Massacre; however, industry insiders believe the film's director, Troy Duffy, mishandled relationships with Miramax, the film's original distributor. As a result, the film was blacklisted and its new distributor showed the film on only five screens. Troy Duffy later funded screenings of the film with help from Blockbuster Video. Despite interested receptions at screenings worldwide, the film remained without a major theatrical release, again due to Duffy's interactions with Hollywood suits. Blockbuster released The Boondock Saints as a "Blockbuster Exclusive", a collection of independent direct-to-video films. Fan rumors claim that video clerks would intentionally place The Boondock Saints in the case of a more popular film in order to promote awareness of the film. Regardless of truth in those rumors, The Boondock Saints gained a large following mostly due to word-of-mouth publicity, and was a bestseller when released on DVD despite its nearly exclusive direct-to-video status. Despite its success, Troy Duffy never saw any of the profits from DVD distribution as his contract with Indican meant that he signed away the DVD rights.
