this is one of my casings looking good i hope first one Ive tried

this is another pic closer of myc

this is two together in fruiting chamber
[image][/image]

and this is light source I'm using

now heres my questions

these are GT strain and the colonization took about 4 weeks. I cased them and everything is going good, I'm using,as you can see. perlite humidification, but I'm not getting any condensation on the sides of the fruiting chamber. Inside the casing container there is humidity though, so i don't know if this is something to be concerned about

also this is the first time with this light source. I used to use a "grow" light made up of an array of HP LEDs. The array had blue red and green spectrum lights but i got rid of it because i needed to make the rent. This is a regular fluorescent light that was a desk light. Do i need something better than that as you can see it gets alot of light on the myc, but its just the one spectrum

any thoughts would be helpful

fluorescents are what you want. The blue light thing is a myth. You'll notice paul put a paragraph in TMC twenty years ago that mentioned the blue spectrum, but he hasn't repeated it ever again. Full spectrum light is what you want, and the best inexpensive way is with fluorescent lights.

That appears to be coir on the top of those trays and the mycelium seems to be aggressively colonizing it. I wouldn't look for too many pins if that's the case until it completly colonizes. If it colonizes completely without pinning, I'd suggest a casing layer of peat/verm. Cubes are a warm weather species that fruit in the hot summer months in Florida and Texas. I also consider cold shocking to be a myth for that species and will only set your work behind.

well thats good stuff thanks m8. Now they have stopped colonizing for the most part because they are in the fruiting chamber and its only getting about 74 degrees of heat. so maybe they needed to get back in the incubator? pretty much nothing have happened for the last 5 days. mostly just sit there and soak up light. sooo just wait and see? Patience? I'm trying but well i go alot more to do and just room for one fruiting chamber.

also i cut one cake in half and and made both those trays. I read somewhere that you can get a bigger flush that way and are more resistant to contam as you dint have all your eggs in one basket. i think today I'm going to birth one more cake and case it all on its own to see if i need more cake in one of these trays to make it work/colonize better.

one more thing almost half of my jars have one spot that just doesn't want to colonize. Its been 5 weeks and still they aren't fully done. Now i fig i had a lil infection but they are colonizing the spots.. just very slowly. If I'm going to crumble and case it doesn't mater that much right.. just scrape off the areas that aren't colonized and crumble the rest right?

well thats enough questions for now, and little bit helps.! thanks

pasha
