Stalled PF Jars
    #5483932 - 04/05/06 06:07 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

All right, the jars aren't totally stalling, they're growing very slowly though. And there is a very lightly colored, greyish/blue spots near the exact spots where i inoculated (only about one per jar, there are four of the jars), it doesn't really spread from that spot. But what's worrying me is that the jars have slowed down colonization a LOT, and the section where the blue is has peeled off of the wall of the jar and pulled itself inwards, only at most a cm but it's visible looking at them.

Any ideas about what I can do here, or what caused this?

Updates about this... The mycelium is turning a grayish tinge -- is this a contamination or is it drying out or something?

I've had jars where the mycelium grow ridiculously slowly or stop growing at all... As far as I can tell, it's a problem with the substrate (being mixed wrong or whatnot). They never seem to recover. I'd suggest just cutting out and keeping any good parts (if they aren't contaminated!), and then starting again. What looks like gray mycelium MIGHT be cobweb mold.

The thing is over one night it all turned grey... I noticed by accident this morning though that the heater they were near went up to 110 at one point during that day (it was an automatic heater that went on and off on a timer)... that would kill mycelium wouldn't it?
