Ideas for sturdy stand for barrel above burner?

I've just bought a 85kBTU propane cooker for use under a 55gal drum for pasteurizing straw, etc.
This burner is on a virtual tripod, and stands about 28inches above the ground. The bottom of the boil-barrel will have to be lifted up to this height for the duration of the burn.
With thirty- or forty cinderblocks I could build some thing, but it seems like pyramid building when a scaffold might do as well.
I've no natural ledges to exploit.
I wonder if anyone has tried an old gutted top-loading washing machine frame or something else less monunental than a cinderblock pile?
I get this minor prob. outta' the way I am sailing.

I would think 10 or so cinderblocks would be enough. Would it be possible to dig a hole so the burner doens't sit so high? It's late, that's all I can think of...lol

Bad idea on the burner, thats gonna cause you nothing but a pain in the ass. Why not just buy a regular gas ring that stands 2-3 inches? If you don't dig a hole for it as pshawny suggested, you're going to need some serious leverage to lift the large barrel full of water that high up. The last thing you want is for a 55 gal drum of 80 degree celsius water spilling onto you!! My suggestion: Buy a shorter burner!!
PS. your tub is gonna go russssty ASAP. Unless it's stainless stell, of course. But I doubt it is.

could you take the burner off its stand and just place that on the ground, or on cement or something?
btw we've been pasteurizing straw w/ steam and it seems like a lot nicer of an idea then the whole hot water bath thing... why havent more people gotten into this?

Get a second barrel cut it in half cut "large" vent holes in top and sides stack them

I _am_ going to use steam: the hot bath was a botch-up.
I took the tripod off, and was able to get the barrel up on the few bricks and blocks I have on hand.
When the heat threatened to exceed pasteurization temps I found the straw in wirebasket too heavy to lift out.
I tipped the barrel over to empty it, and knocked it 'out of round'. Lid and clamp-ring dont fit anymore! Drat.
I'll betcha' I need to buy a new one.
Thanks for reminding me of the steam tech: I am sure it will be better.

If you use stream, be sure to install thermometers at several locations in the streamer barrel. It is easy to overheat the straw at the inlet. The straw at the outlet might not get hot enough.
Have you considered chemical pastuation. It would be much easier to add bleach then heat all that water.

Thanks Cricket... I'll keep chemical pasteurization in mind. And the idea of cutting a barrel to make a pedestal for the boiler. (that idea occured to me in a dream a night or so back!)
I can't find any past 'Shroomery notes about steaming. The search function doesn't deliver any under terms I've tried. I'm puzzled by your reference to an intake and outlet: my memory has image of barrel over flame with loosely sealed lid.
Still slogging...Niju-san

This is my memory of how steaming is done: A few bricks to raise wire basket off bottom of the barrel. Water added to below the bottom of basket. Seal lid loosely. Add flame. Steam for two hours. sound OK?
(no luck finding info with the search-function)
