i left wbs soaking for 5 days. when i opened the lid i saw one sprout floating on top and it kind of smelled fermented. even after 5 days the seeds are not so swollen. i will drain, rinse, and simmer for 10 minutes until some more seeds puff up. should i toss and start fresh?

Ebass- You dont need to soak. I just rinsed my seed thuroughly, removed all the sunflower seeds, then added enough seed to fill each 1pt jar half way. Then i filled each jar with water until it was at the same height as the seed (about a half cm lower to be exact). I PC'd for 1hr and 30 mins and the jars came out about 4/5ths full. The seed seems to be hydrated not to much or too little

soaking allows the endospores to germinate so they can be killed when you pc. some of them may survive and cause contams if you do not soak. 5 days is way too long.. usually 18-24 hours, then simmer for 30 min. this is where the grains absorb the water. drain until wbs is not dripping anymore.. fill jars about 1/2 full then pc. good luck
