No Growth!!

I am a first time grower and am using PF tek, I inoculated my jars about 10 days ago and there has been no growth whatsoever. I was very catious while sterilizing and am pretty sure thats not the problem, because i dont even have any contaimination. as you could imagine this is very harmfull to my confidence in growing scince i cant even grow mold or bacteria let alone shrooms. Now don't misinterpret this as a lack of knowlage of the technique, I've read everything i could. now my only guess is my substrate is to dry, i was hoping someone could describe the best of thier ability the reqired constincy of a good substrate?? i live about 1 mile elavation and theres practicly no humidity here, would this affect anything?? it might also be my rice of vermaculite, the vermaculite is relatively the size of bee bee's, and the rice is organic brown(occasionally green) rice bought from a super market. any help here would be much apperciated... thanks, a frustrated begginer

if you followed the PF tech exactly it might take a little longer to show growth, I have found the recommended wanted use there to be too low, try using a syringe to inject 5-10cc STERILE water into the cake also maybe try loosening the cap that always helps me with stalled or stopped jars, But that is really just guessing, there could be a lot of things not right, it really easy to do the PF tech just keep in mind; temp, humidity and cleanliness, and none are more important than the others.

What temperature are you incubating the jars at? Where did you get the spores? Consistency of your substrate: You should have a well mixed substrate. You should see no lumps of rice as it can clump depending on how you mixed the ingredients. It should fall easily from your spoon yet some should remain sticking. When mixing, let your substrate sit for 10 minutes. Now mix it again. This will allow the ingredients to thoroughly absorb the water, creating a very light mix that should be just right and not look soggy and wet when looking through the bottom of a filled jar. Run your spoon through the center of the bowl, through the mixture and along the bottom of the bowl. A very light "milkiness" is all you should see on the bottom of the bowl through the trench you just made, not a puddle. This will be easier to see if you use a stainless steel mixing bowl because of the reflective bottom. You can get a large one for pretty cheap. Use this recipe [It will fill 12 250ml jars]: Vermiculite: 7 Cups Water: 2.5 Cups Ground Brown Rice: 1.5 Cups Put the 7 cups of vermiculite into your mixing bowl. Now evenly pour the 2.5 cups of water over the surface of the vermiculite. Add the ground brown rice. Now mix the ground brown rice into the vermiculite/water mixture. Mix it well. You should see no lumps. Leave it alone for 10 minutes. Now mix it up good one more time. Hope that helps.

Good to hear that you finally got some growth. I am in the same situation you were (no growth, no contamination) but now I've got my hopes up again.
