This is going to sound like a really weird idea but I have two mason jars full of dead moths. any likelihood that they could be used as a substrate or added to enhance the substrate? thanks

I'm guessing they would have to be heavily composted.

well... I use .5-pint jars with the four inoculation holes in the top as killing jars. I collect them because I live in a good place for some beautiful specimens but I end up with doubles of some and inferiors of some, so I end up now with two jars full to the fill line with dead moths. I will try it as a substrate and then update this thread once it has been thought to have been lost to time.

mushrooms are parasitic. they'll grow on practically anything as long as they can digest it. why in the hell would you want to grow on moths? I mean seriously... do you take shits and wonder if you can grow on your cleveland steamers too?

I did a grasshopper grow once. Go for it. Dry the moths very well, then rehydrate and pasteurize. I'll bet it will work. RR

Tweexican I know that I cannot grow on human faeces. I want to grow on moths because I have a shit ton of them and for novelty purposes - I love moths. and no I do not do that to answer your question. RogerRabbit you are a god. I will try it and update this thread with the results. Do I just pasteurize them the same way that you would pasteurize poo?
