Melting caps?

Alright, the other night I went hunting with a friend of mine. He has a pasture across from his house. We found what seemed to be liberty caps, but the next morning; The caps had melted. What is up with this?
The musrooms were found in northern alabama in the feeding pin of the cows. The had a translucent white stalk, with dark purple/black caps with the obvious "nipple" on the top. I know I need more info for you guys, but thats all I have. I'll get pictures next time I go hunting.

Coprinus species are not active. Some are very good edibles, others are mildly toxic. They are all over the place right now, and can be found in a lot of different habitats including straw and hay, manure, wood chips, mulch.... Most members of the Coprinus genus have gills that autodigest as the cap opens up which become an inky mess with the black spores mixed in. For this reason Coprinus species are often called 'inky caps.' Be familiar with these mushrooms as they occupy the same habitats as psilocybes and can often be found growing with them. I imagine there will be a lot of posts asking for coprinus IDs in the coming weeks.

I could be wrong but I think I remember MJ's book saying he found them in ohio or something? Could be totally off, so don't flame me. I'd go research now but not enough time

Liberty caps do not grow in ohio but Psilocybe caerulipes does in May-June and July.

yeah here in "australia" tho's "ink caps" grow with and around our actives...
dunno how many of you are "artistic" but i sure am.. ive allways gotta draw something to do with shrooms.. after a trip... anyways.. my point being last year i was trippin one night and for some reson the ink caps 2 houses down from me poped into my head.. and i got the weridist vibe to go and get themm as soon as i got them.. magicly my brain said """"DDDDDRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAWWWWWWW"
lol so what did i do... took them back to my house got out my sketch book and had a scribble with them.. and same thing earlyer in the day i had seen them and they were all upright and fine.. when i went back that nite they had slumped and was nearly falling over...
any ways i was able to scribble my name on the piece of paper with the cap b4 it ran out of "black ink" also IT DRYS!!!!!!!!!! nice as.. tiny bit pealy so if u realy wanted to u can remove mistakes or what not..... at 1st the papers a bit wet and they have a fair bit of water in em.. but it helps the "ink so 2 speek" move on ur finger and on and around the piece of paper...and to smudge and fade/shadeings..... but you do need of few of them.. and dont MASH EM ALL UP B4 YOU GET THEM HOME
so what im gonna do this winter is collect up a nice bag full of em bring em home and draw something with them.. most likely a picutre of a mushroom
if any one eles has done or got photos of any "MUSHROOM" art ( no proper texters paint markers pencils ) id like to see.. maybe MJ SHROOMER youve come acorss something liek this??? or even done it your self??
also might pick me some other types of none active shrooms and see if any others leave a "colourd" mark.. or if any one eles knows of any other times.. you could "draw" with let us know
also just got another mad idea for "SPORE PRINTING" wonder wat a nicely drawn mushroom would liike like "WITH REAL SPORE PRINTS " as the gills on the picutre ???
ooo maybe i shouildnt of said it.. but any tru MUSHROOM LOVER and is into art would of picked up a "BIT OF NATURE" and tryed to draw with it but then again i dont know how someone who takes shrooms cant be into art.......... becos fuck theres alot of it in ur brain... lol so the mushrooms say any ways... cos ehhh i dont think "pyslcibe" has tha picutres we see on closed eye visuals allrready programed into each mushroom ehhehehehehheheheh

I drew my initials on a rock with some shaggy mane ink in December. I can still just barely make it out, although it is mostly gone by now. It is a super cool natural process to witness, also they can go from pins to full inkys in just a day or two, very fast.

what about doing fractal spirals with pore prints? Like get a heap of fresh inky caps and just do the print, then come back later with other fresh ones and lay other prints over them to make a kind of kaleidascope picture... cool idea. I might try this next time I see them.
Every time I see them I think "oooooh liberties" but then remember they dont grow here.... so sad.
