This was all quite a while ago, but if anything I wouldnt do it the way we did. :grin:

Well, just for info's sake the first time we tried them we made a pasta sauce and lumped in fresh amanita chunks. It made the whole thing go a sickly looking "girl pink", and all the chucks sat at the bottom of the pasta - which got pretty (aka incredily) gross towards the end.

Other times we boiled them in a thick tea and had about a cup full. 1/2 of us managed to keep it down (I think),

Now what your looking for is what would I reccommend(I dont have much experience but a little more than most)

If I was going to take them again, I'd probably dry them, then place some caps in a strong herbal tea. Swallow the caps whole, for me I'd rather down it in one and get it over and done with. My mate did this at school (we were all young once) and he found it easy to drink and he had an interesting time in class.
I definately think dry is the way to go, less volume, less smell, less taste.

I've been re-reading recipes for preparation of amanita, and was wondering what effect different sources of heat could have on the potency of the mushroom, and the overall ibotenic acid versus muscimol content?

ie: Would the heat from an oven (used for drying) destroy the potency of the mushrooms? Or merely aid in further changing the ibotenic acid into muscimol? Or would boiling fresh mushrooms (to make tea) be safe and potent?

Any insight into this anyone? :confused:

I have heard of people successfully using ovens as a drying method and having it convert with not much potency loss. The right temperature would have to be kept.. I have seen preparation documents that suggested the use of an oven. It has been a long time. Perhaps it was on erowid, maybe it was talked about here. A "search posts" should turn up some discussion regarding it.
Personally I don't mess with it, just remembering what I read or was told.

All the "research" I did found that the active components are very heat stable - I think to at least 160 - 180. (it may even be more than this).

The heat boils off a co2 molecule - (decarboxylation) and this converts the "poison" to the useable form, much like thc. The bodys enzymes also do this decarboxylation but they are obviously not as good at it. This is one of the reasons you need to eat way more thc than you do to smoke it.

In based on what I've read the more cooking the merrier. I'll try to find some links.

^^^ If you're not a careful reader, you'll try and make acid out of 12 fosters beers and lysene tablets. Erowid has that document there under 'myths'. I didn't see the 'myth' part and went on believing it could be done.

Be careful what you read and make sure you read it well.

Hmm, I can't really picture myself trying to make acid in any way really. Or any drugs for that matter these days.

Where does it say anything about myths?

Whatever the case, like I said I can't verify that it works because I don't bother doing it. Most people that I've heard from said it was either a waste of time or was unpleasant.
