My poo seems slow to colonize?
    #5475791 - 04/03/06 05:56 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

i have about 5 lbs. of tenn stud 50/50 mix spawned with about 3qts. of WBS all in a 12qt. dish tub. It's been 6 days and the tub is only at about 30-40%. I was hoping to be fully colonized by day 10-12. I am keeping the tub covered with foil with a few slits in it. Its inside another tub, so it's completely dark. Its being kept under my bed at about 74 degrees. During the day it gets to about 78 id say sometimes in our apartment, and probably about 70 at night. Is this colonizing slow, or am i just being a freak?

your temperatures are just fine. a block of substrate will generate a lot of heat on its own, so you dont have to incubate it at all.

how deep is your substrate? i never weigh substrates for spawn ratios i do it all by eye... but if you're having slow colonization its probably due to less than optimal spawn rates, or your substrate overheating IME.

stashing it in another tub seems kinda suspect to me... you might want to just barely crack the lid of the tub its inside of to let it breathe a little bit and allow c02/warm air to escape...

anyway 6 days isnt too long... give it another 4-5 and then start worrying a little bit... this shit takes time, you gotta be patient.

have fun.
