Ive been finding these in my field for over a year now and never thought anything of them until now. Reason being that I used to find just as many cubes so i would only pick the cubes. These things are everywhere in my field,(with cubes nowhere to be found) i think theyre inactives but im hoping that I luck out and there might be a slim chance that theyre good.

they all grow on or near old cowpatties. Im In texas. They are in a pasture. Doesnt bruise in 5 minutes, i held on to one for about 5 mintues to see if it bruised but it didnt so i dropped it. gills look dark blue or black.

From the photos, those look like Agaricus, the same genus as the ones you buy at the grocery. Several species in that genus are edible, several are poisonous. None of them are active.

To check bruising on them, cut it in half vertically, scrape the inside with your knife edge hard enough to bruise the tissue (scrape hard), and watch for the color changes. The test should be performed on a specimen picked within the last hour, and color changes can take up to an hour to happen.

Also, note the odor. The odor is usually strongest where the stem and cap join. If you can't detect any odor there, try the base of the stem. If you still can't, try crushing the stem base with your fingers and sniff a bit more. If you still can't, then assume that it has no particular odor.

Happy mushrooming!
