Says on the sign they're used "Against looting and theft."

... That's a pretty hardcore security system.

landmines were laid heavily during the conflict when the Khmer Rouge so-called communists took power in Cambodia - before they cleansed the society of thousands of innocent intellectuals by taking them out into the killing fields.
During fights with rebels landmines were laid as far out as in areas in Thailand close to the border.
I cant remember the full history of it but im sure Cambodia remains one of the most heavily mined countries in Asia. If i were hunting new or exotic mushrooms I would probably consider southern China or even Myanmer/Burma - since Cambodia is still heavily mined.

Yes this sign is from the summer of 2004 and I did not bump this post.

However, I would like to point out that the Chief of Security Police is also a friend of mine who owns one of the hotels I use to stay n here at Angkor Wat (The Marry Me Hotel in Xiem Riap, Kampuja).

And in the meantime here is a real landmine I came across in Cambodia.

Sometimes I find rockets stacked against small trees in some rice paddie areas and along the 200 km pot-holed road to Angkor formThe border.

When locals find mortars and such they stack thenm against trees to let people know it is dangerous int he area.

mj

"victims of landmines" is the name of the band?
they should tour, come out with a CD, raise awareness.
Maybe even make a bit more money than busking.

they shouldntve been picking mushrooms on private property. plus that band overcoming their handicap is totally a way to fame. i mean look at lance armstrong. he had heart lung AND testicular cancer!
