Hyygrometer?

I have a digital hygrometer, and I just picked up a analog one today (half dollar sized), the digital one reads 97% right now, and the analog reads around 83%. Way too much of a difference. I asked the guy at the store how accurate the analog one was and he said its most likely pretty damn accurate. Which one do you guys think is the most accurate? right now im thinking the analog. both were cheap

Analog ones are not good for very high humidity becasue the condisation on the metal spiral ferks it all up. The digital hygrometer may have something in the instructions which says it maximum humidity that it works at. I trust my digital over my analog, but I have a nice digital.

If both were cheap I wouldn't trust either. I am new to this as well. I havent even cased yet...three or four more days! What I have been hearing from others, however, is that you should always see condensation on the sides of the tub and make sure the casings are always moist. I dont know what else to say and theres nobody awake at this hour to help lol. Unless you're planning on leaving your setup for the a whole days at a time, start misting manually and get a feel for the humidity...as you go along ask questions...you wont need a hygrometer eventually. The way I see it...I already made a few mistakes with the jars and I expect alot more to happen down the road...just make new bird seed everyday and have colonized substrate lined up for fuck ups. Are you a depressed insomniac as well?

I found some really good teks on how to tweak analog hygrometers. Type "hygrometer" into the search bar at the top of the Shroomery page. You can find an hygrometer for $15 at a hardware store. Get an analog one and follow one of the teks (the one involving table salt to calibrate at 75%). If the hardware store does not carry it, try a cigar shop. They have good ones I'm sure. Call one up and ask if it measures up to 100% humidity...say its for your pet lizard and the ones at the pet store are ridiculously expensive.

Like it's been said the more expensive the better. A good accurate analog should run well over $100 I've had one that got more accurate the higher the RH and cost me $179 from Germany. If you want accurate get a psychrometer they are dead on and are reasonably priced as well.

Do a salt test and see which is more accurate.
If you want a decent, mid range priced digital, check out the Taylor model #1458. Mycoshack, one of the vendors has them. And at a real fair price, now ,lol.

i got a cheap digital hygrometer from ebay for $9.99 it works and seems pretty accurate. i mean i just need to know if im at 99% most of the time anyways, and the cheap analogue hygrometers are relativley accurate up to about 75% - 80%... which isnt 99...
anyways, my digi hygro is cheap and functions correctly, so im happy.
