    #5473043 - 04/03/06 12:23 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

well just that

wondering if the peat i have is too old to use for casing ...it's about 6 months old, does anyone think it could be bad?

and i pc'd some wbs jars about 3 weeks ago, do you think they will still be usable in like a day?

or a week?

i'm waiting on my agar.

the peat I think if fine, just pasteurize it before use.

I dont know about the WBS, though I dont think so.

i don't like bags because they take a very long time to colonize

but thats what i'll be using for the casing mix

i might try one with a larger % of spawn and see what happens.

Wbs/grain spawn jars with a gas exchange filter LOSE moisture, over time.

I would inoculate them within 72 hours of PC'ing.

Any longer & they may stall 1/2 or 3/4 colonized.
For lack of MOISTURE.

Couldn't you remedy this condition by using more LC then normal, say 10-15 CC's instead of 5 CC's ?

I've used some that where a month old. Don't recommend it though

I find they can tend to contaminate at this point in time.

I had a case I PC'ed and didn't get around to using for a month. 3 of the 12 contaminated , the other 9 I was able to use. I try to use them within a couple days as a rule of thumb, as Agar stated.
