All I could find is horticulture vermiculite. It looks a lot more finer grade than a lot of the verm i've seen in pictures. Will it still work alright?

Some people are in favor of finner and some are for courser. I think that both have their places, but you'll hear some people say you scored, and some will say look for the courser stuff. It really doesn't matter.

Fine verm is not the best for casings period! It will work if you don't have a choice but I prefer medium grade verm myself, larger chunks hold more water and provide much better aeration which makes more common mycosense.

Course vermic I believe is the best also. It holds much more water and is great for casings plus the jars seem to colinize faster in my opinion

I totaly agree with the experts here about the course verm, but I myself have had trouble finding the course stuff in the past, it seems like each season there my be one store in the whole area that carries it, and everyone else has the fine shit, and if you dont know where the store is, your shit out of luck, heh. Anyway, Ive found that when doing a casing with peat and verm, if all you can get is the fine stuff add some perile to it at around a ratio of, 5 peat, 4 verm, 2 perilite. This is by no means a set amount, just an approximation of what ive found to give it a good consitancy,
