Help for frustrated myco experimenter

I need some help. I am in my fourth try at gorwing shrooms and I'm having a problem. In my current try and in my last I have had problems getting my jars, or in the prior instance bags, to grow continually. I have two half gallom jars with rye that I ordered online. I inoculated them with two different syringes, one was Brazilian and the other Z strain. Both started out fine and I began to see some growth after about a week. I have the jars in plastic bin with a bit of water in the bottom to help keep the heat even and the jars are placed in a aluminum baking pan. The heat comes from a heating pad placed underneath the bin.
I have kept the temperature on the jars between 79 and 88 degrees. It's now been two and a half weeks and I have shaken the jars three times and the jars seem to have stalled for the last week or so. I have been fiddling with the temp raising it for a day or two and now I have been lowering it for the past couple days. I don't have more than a half a dozen or so small balls of mycelium in one of the jars. THe other seems to be a bit more dispersed, not so much forming clumps but just forming a bit of white around most of the rye grains.
I had the same problem with the bags of rye that I tried over a month ago. They grew well to start them stalled. With the bags I did manage to get the growth to about 60% but no further. I did notice with the bags that they picked up growth after I dropped the temp towards the end of my efforts. Bu they eventually just stopped. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is taking so long? Are my temps too high? Is the mycelium wearing out so to speak? I would appreciate any suggestions.

You only need to shake the jar once after 20 to 30% colonized. By shaking the jars to much you can hurt the myc. Staling it or stopping it from growing.
I would also suggest using qt jars to start with. You need to get the hang of it before trying large amounts. GL

yea i second that, only shake once hehe. Also try to build a TiT incubator, it will cost you arounf $20+ depending were you get it from but they are worth it, you can even get a small one for discrete growing. Mine is a TiT and when i start pinning then it becomes a fruiting chamber, see multi use. Good luck and welcome abord
