Glad to see the work stefan. I think you did a good job with the color of the water, especially in the color changes close to the shoreline.
When looking at it, I noticed my eyes being pulled to the far left continuosly, when it seems like maybe you intended the large rock in the center to be the focal point. I made a few images to see if I could figure out why...
In this image you can see that the highest point of contrast (value contrast, which is the primary contrast our eye percieves - color is secondary), is the point at the far left where the wave crashes against the rock (I've circled it). This point contains the lightest light used in the painting, closest to one of the darkest darks. This produces the highest contrast in the picture.
You can also see that it is the point which the majority of the lines of the composition point toward, which further draws the eye to it.
********
Here I've simply placed a little blue over that far left point to cool it down and lower it's value contrast. I then place some light orange over the far right cloud formation to increase its value contrast, and help to pull the eye to the right of the painting some, to counteract the left-pull of the composition lines.
********
Here is the image I painted over in grayscale:

It's not a perfect solution, but here you can see that the far left point is noticeably less strong, it doesn't pull your eye to it as strongly. The far right cloud becomes stronger and the eye ends up moving between the two ends of the painting in a more equal and controlled way.
I hope this gives you some insight into how I percieved the painting - its good to see your work, and keep going forward!

that was some really good feedback, thanks Maybe I'll make some changes to it, for example that the water in the left background should be lighter
Somehow the focal point shifted to the left while painting and I didn't intend that the island was the center neither, but somehow it turned out this way.. heeh that's what you get when you're a beginner
Now I think of it I don't mind that people will look more to the left of the painting, that way they discover years later that there are also a bunch of clouds bringing rain from the right keeps it interesting

Indeed, it is really a matter of intent and aesthetics. I have a love for all sorts of compositions, they don't have to exhibit "balance" or anything like that. To my mind, its really just a matter of intent - it's good to recognize what you intend to do, and purposefully work toward that intent, rather than being at the mercy of subconscious decisions. You gotta make those spirits work for you, don't be their slave. ; )
Keep it up!
