Interview Today!

I had an interview this morning at 11am for a nanny position less than 4 miles from my house. I woke up at what I thought was 9:45 - completely forgot about daylight savings, it was 10:45, and I wound up being 20 minutes late, and I didn't have the ladies phone number to call. Universally stupid of me. Totally out of character too, I'm normally like 10 minutes early for everything.
So despite being late, it went really well, I apologized profusely and they understood about the daylight savings blunder. I met with the couple for about an hour and 1/2, and they seemed to really like me. They have 3 month old twins - a boy and a girl They're so cute. It would be less money that I'm used to making in the mortgage industry, but I love children, and I'd be HAPPY, which at this point in my life is so much more important to me. It would be decent money though, like $15 an hour under the table, and I'd be working about 45-50 hours a week.
I've never worked with twins before, though I do have experience with infants and also multiple kids - just not multiple infants! I held both of them, and they're so sweet and happy. Making all kinds of cute gurgling sounds and just figuring out that they can put their fingers in their mouths Both parents work full time, but the mother is still on maternity leave - she goes back to work at the end of April, and they would want me to start next week, so I had a few weeks to work with the mother, see how she does things, and so she could see how I do things, and give me pointers as to what the kids like and what they don't, and get used to their schedules and stuff
I'm really excited about the opportunity. I hope I hear back from them and get it, it would be a great change of pace from my 9-5 office job, sitting behind a desk all day. I don't know that I would necessarily make a career out of being a nanny, but it's something I can see myself loving and sticking with for the foreseeable future
Babies are amazing, and at this age they're doing something new almost every day. Wish me luck, and feel free to comment and give any insight/opinions

Thanks Des, You too!!
Randal, I never heard back from the other 2 places - the first job, the non mafia one said that they would be calling people last week and I didn't hear anything Maybe I'll hear from them this week. And no, the family is NOT Russian They have a gorgeous house in a really nice neighborhood, and just seem really friendly and laid back.
Jim, I haven't heard from my old job since my last day. I was expecting phone calls every day with a million questions, but apparently he didn't feel the need to call me, which is nice. I don't know whether he's a terrorist or not but I DO know that I don't want me name associated with them anymore, at all.
I'm crossing my fingers that I get this job - I like the idea of working under the table. Fuck Uncle Sam Also, does anyone have any experience on purchasing your own health insurance? I've only ever had it through companies or through my parents...

I feel like it's the right thing to do right now, take a step back and decide what I want to pursue long term. Maybe even go back to school after a while. I do know though that the mortgage industry was not making me happy, and I was severely stressed out, in a bad way. The industry is becoming more and more cut throat, and I don't like having to look over my shoulder all the time wondering if I'm about to get fired or stabbed in the back or something.
It's kind of nerve racking though, applying for nanny jobs that have nothing to do with what I've been doing for the past 5 years. I'm not big on change, it makes me nervous, and I'm a control freak. I know it's the right thing to do though.

Liz, a job as a nanny, would be a fantastic job, so completely rewarding, I think you'll be really happy doing that. Its going to be tiring tho, so be prepared, you'll be on the go all day. If you need any help, have questions, anything let me know, I've got childcare resources like you don't even know.
