I think that the cheapest way is to just lay them out and dry them with a fan. That is what I do because I don't have the money for a dehydrator right now and none of the thrift stores around have any. So I just fan dry them. It usually take 3-4 days depending on the humidity. Good thing I have A/C or it wouldn't work in the summer because all of the damn humidity.

I read about putting them in a plastic container with Dri-Z-Air dehumidifing crystals, never done it though... does anyone know how this works?

I fan dry them for 48 hours then put them in a ziplock container with damprid (w' a piece of mesh between the shrooms and the damprid)for another 24 to 48 hours. Most folks have a fan--and damprid costs $3.00. You can also take a needle and thread to string them up to dry. The fastest is the dehydrator--but that's for the rich growers with many casings and flat-screen TVs. GL.

Is damprid grainy crystals like Dri-Z-Air?.. im guessing their similar, and I was wondering how necessary the fanning is, or do you think it would be alright to put the shrooms straight in with the damprid?

i dont know too much about this because i use a dehydrator but i think i read somewhere that just air drying them doesn't work that well and you can get mold on your shrooms?

Not generally a great idea to let the shrooms touch any desiccant. Put a piece of screen over a tub of desiccant and lay the mushrooms on that. Click on this link for an excellent desiccant information page.

also you shrooms as you know are 90% water can't just dump them in a container with damp rid that just too much water. fan dry em forst to get msot of teh water out then damp rid them to get that last bit out. cable modem and wirless also work for drying ive found haha. i use al lthe free heat in my house for drying or incubating. its efficient!
