Air exchange and pinning

i remember reading a post recently about air exchange during pinning, couldnt find it though. dont pins need high c02 to initiate pinning? its droped at fuiting right? or does this only apply to casings?

It needs LOWER Co2 to initiate pinning which means more air exchance. Although cakes are more forgiving when it comes to this than casings are
