New and not sure where to start. Advice?

Hey guys, I've been lurking around here for a little while. I'm amazed the amount of quality info here. So I think I'm about ready to start my first attempt at producing some mush.
I've looked at the PF tek done in ?poor man pods? but I also see a lot of you guys around here talking about grows done in just rubbermaid tubs with really great results. I also see people with more complex grow involving humidifiers and other automating devices.
I'm looking to produce some nice potent mushrooms at about the lowest cost. (I'm on a pretty tight budget )
I'd really appreciate some advice on what would be my best plan of action before I start buying supplies.
THANKS!

I cant help you with PF but to encourage you to use WBS or case the PF in hpoo.
You said a tight budget, so I assume that a PC is out of the question. Which you need for WBS.
So if you do go the PF tek route at least looking into casing it in hpoo

I'm glad to see that you are taking an interest in this hobby. Really if you are on a tight budget it helps to get creative with problems, though for a first time it wouldn't hurt to study the teks. Mostly just collect what you already have around the house that you could use, old fish tanks, and don't be above going to swap meets or yard sales.

Using the PF tek, horse poo and a mono/double tub setup, you can get an awesome harvest for VERY little investment.

A pressure cooker is kinda out of my price range right now. I've looked in thrift stores but a working pressure cooker is not an easy item to find for a low price.
It would seem that people are getting results just using steam sterilization. I think I've seen tubs I can use for like 10 bucks at walmart too. And I'm pretty sure I can get some horse manure for free....
So, I guess my game plan so far will be to start PF jars but instead of fruiting them like cakes use them to get some horse manure colonized? And make one of these Mono tubs?
What about this casing? I've been reading this forum and some people seem to not be using them at all. You guys think I could get away with out one......I've heard you can use wax paper??
Still open to suggestions

That's what you want to do
Spawn is spawn. Just takes a little more work getting enough from cakes .
Take 6 1/2 pint colonized cakes, break them up real fine, and mix(spawn) them with 5 pounds of H/POO . It'll work just fine
You can get by without a casing with Poo. Check into some of the TEK's and see if you can't find a casing mix that you might be able to use. Peat and verm,50/50, works real well. And if nothing else, you can use straight verm.
You're gonna hate this, but look what I found at the Goodwill yesterday for $2. Holds 7 quarts and the seal's still good

And you're right, I go to the Goodwills, 2 of them, 2-3 times a week and this is the first time I've EVER found something like this

No problem . The BIG one's are hard to find. I find smaller ones all the time.
Sounds like you have a good idea of what you're doing Keep reading anyhow, lol.
Check into LC's. That will help you out a lot if you're going to have to be using cakes as spawn for awhile. Can get your colonization times down to about 7-10 days

yea, it is a little tek that got me though the days, it is not for bulk, just some idea's to start, my first PF cakes from start to finish cost me $20, so this is one of my poor ways to do it

Nice. I like the simplicity of this. But I plan to do more then one cake and only have one of those CD spindles I could use.
I'm pretty failure with the mushroom experience but I'm just sick of spending $10 a gram. So I'm looking for cheap quick grow that will get me a decent supply of mush I can enjoy once in a while.

do you have a PC, spores, and jars? And i would recomend you look into LC, live culture, and if you have a PC i use a tek called WBS, standing for wild bird seed, i like it better then PF cakes. Any questions PM me.
