Not venting cake for 40 hours? Bad idea?
    #5463856 - 03/31/06 12:48 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

My acadian coast psylocibe cubensis started fruiting a few days ago, now some fruits are about 1,5 inch long. I vent/spray them about 3 times a day (they are in a small individual terrarium).

Now here's the question: will it hurt them if I don't vent them for 40 hours, or will it just slow/halt growth? Should I keep the same light patterns during this time or put them in the dark?

Thanks for any input!

in 40 hours those fruits that have already started will be exploding spores everywhere. you want to keep doing the same as you have been before... mist, fan, and keep light cycle the same. the next flushes needs light to initiate pinset.

here is the golden ticket that'll answer all your questions

Yeah, I read the whole FAQ, but was just wondering if I had chances to not ruin the cake since I gotta leave my home for at least 36 hours.

I'm not a pro yet but I would hire a babysitter, if ther is growth now then by the time you return some will likely be rotting, good luck.

Thanks for the information guys, I would have made a mistake without you. Now I think I will bring them with me

Now lets see how I can bring that in the subway and bus without harming them or looking ridiculous... I think I'm going to wrap my small fc in wrapping paper and do as it was a very fragile gift

Wow bringing your operation along on the subway and bus may be an even worse idea than leaving it alone for 36 hours. Hard to plan things, though, I guess.

Man, I would leave 'em alone. Changing temps like that will do more harm than good in my opinion. They should be ok, although you may see some aborting and there will more than likely be spores spread all over, but it won't do much harm (except you will lose those prints that you could be sending to me:)). If you are concerned you can actually get some polyfill, drill a few holes in your fc, and stuff them with the fil. Throw a fan on outside your fc pointed towards the holes (drill just above casing layer or a few inches up the side). Keep lighting pattern the same. My two cents....
