So what does Utah contribute to America?

Mormonism is almost as wierd as Scientology. Idaho is where potatoes come from. & You have a SALT lake; we like fresh/drinkable water please!

Beautiful scenery, some of the country's most amazing National Parks.
Also, geological art installations.

They do have some amazing scenery. But they also pollute their envrionment quite a lot, and thanks to orin hatch, they use their state as a dumping ground for other state's toxic waste.
SLC is a fucking digusting industrial wasteland. I hate it there.

That's right.... Zion National Park.... Canyonlands.... Arches... Bryce.... Capitol Reef.... Escalante Grand-Staircase.... and amny more state & county parks and wilderness areas.
After spending some time in the remote and ruggged land of Utah I had a newfound respect for the Mormon settlers who moved out there seeking a place to practice their religion. I might not agree with their doctrine, but they had the balls to travel through and to some pretty rough country to find a place to escape persecution. And isn't that what this country is all about?
EDIT: Oh yeah.... and thre are also several large military installations / proving grounds where our government tests its WMDs. Chemical, biological & traditional for sure.... I'm not sure if they've used Utah for nuclear tests....

Great post J. I've been to all those parks except Capitol and Escalante and that was one of the best summers of my life. The people were genuinely nice. I've met some fine Mormons, the ones that don't spend their time on conversion missions.

I've hiked in Zion and Bryce, they're absolutely incredible. The only place even remotely comparable here in AZ is of course the grand canyon which is on par, as well as sedona which is just really very nice.
But man, the mountains, the cliffs and wild life in Utah are hard to beat. It's intense. Now if the people, politics and pollution weren't there.. then it'd be perfect.

Capitol Reef is an underlooked gem of a park. It's got a single car accessible campground, and the rest of the park is backcountry..... gotta have 4WD to get around the jeeptrails. There's also a huge orchard planted by Mormons in the late 1800s and it is still maintained by the park service. Thousands of fruits trees.... cherry, apple, peach, pear.... If you camp there during the harvest season you can help yourself to the fruit :-)

As nice as the rest of the state can be, SLC balances it out by being a shithole. I went up there for christmas last year and we arrived at night. Driving along the freeway, there was fog covering a lot of the city. As we drove further, clusters of smokestacks would loom out of the darkness and fog.. throwing up a hellish glow from their cap-fires. Couple that with the freeway exit signs that relay such information as "400 West South Street" and weirder combinations of seemingly random directions and numbers and it was just plain fucking weird and disorienting.
I honestly felt like I was in some sort of Bladerunner-esque future. It didn't help that we were tired as fuck and having the long drive highway hallucinations on top of it. It was very disturbing.

washington produces more potatoes than idaho. they want to change washington's image from the apple, to it's primary source of income: the potatoe... "washington potatoes" instead of washington apples... it was on the news the other day...

As far as I know he was banned from the Pub for a while but he's back in now. Haven't seen him around much. It's a shame.

I dont post much in the shroomery lately anymore, because I do a lot more fun things in life now, plus posting on the boards gets old. I hang out with friends, not post on here. By the way I am not going to be on here much more tonight, after all it is friday.

I dont even drink as often as I used to and not as much, plus I exercise more too. I am looking for a better job, mosy likely i will find one soon.

Yes they are going well, but can do better..and will, it is all about just making it happen, I used to drink too much, drinking all the time is not good for life improving goals. I still drink, but not as much as i used to.

Park City is a great little town. Liberal (for Utah) and holds the annual Sundance Film Festival.
Utah is also home to some of the most spectacular scenery and skiing in all of North America. I had the pleasure of skiing Deer Valley ( http://www.deervalley.com/index.jsp ) and it doesn't get much better than that.
