Cake sizes matter?

Does it matter if you have a whole pint or a quarter pint? Is it just a matter of a longer colonisation with larger room to cover? Wouldn't this benefit the shrooms in the long run?
Also, I was shopping around yesterday and found two "Ball" sets of 12 canning jars, exactly what I need to have everything to grow, but I couldn't figure out which one would be closer to a cup, or a half pint. Does anyone know from experience if it is the one thats about two inches tall or the one thats about 3 1/2 to 4 inches tall.
You'll see a grow log start as soon as ralph sends in the spores. Thanks!

It'd benefit if you were spawning...
A half pint jar could colonize in less than 2 weeks pending on substrate and what you inoculated with...Spawn that to a bag of birdy seeds =-o....Indeed it would...However...
I like adding more colonized subtrate for poo bags, for faster colonization, plus having a bit of WBS in your poo isn't such a bad idea...To give the mycelium lots of air pockets and such, for mycelium growth and good aeration...
I'm not concerned about how long jars take to colonize anyways...
1 quart jar with tyvek/polyfil of WBS and an LC takes about 7-9 days to fully colonize

you want to get the wide mouth jars.. if half pint, you'll look for the wide mouth tapered. you can find them at grocery stores and walmart around this time a year.(in some places they are seasonal)
i'd start out as a newb with brf in half pt jars then, after proper technique is established, graduate to wbs or rye in pints or quarts. brf takes 2-3 weeks, the fastest i've seen would be g2g transfers, about 5-9 days

also for brf teks, you will want to use only the half pint jars.. using anything else will result in an extremely long colonization time which can lead to contams.

True...Except...
When using LCs...Before I got my pressure cooker I did Quart jars of BRF with liquid cultures and got great results...took about 3-4 weeks for colonization, which wasn't a biggie. Only problem with them is that it's BRF! :P

true that...lc would be a faster way for a qt. brf, but i would hope that if the person knows how to make a viable lc wouldn't still be using brf cakes, unless like you said, they don't have a pc.
i haven't had the greatest luck with lc in the past, what is your preferred method gnostic?

Don't really follow any methods from the shroomery to be honest...I do however take bits and pieces (from what other people do) and use whatever best suits me.
I thought I put one I use in my favs...But I didn't, i'll PM it to you once I locate it.
