Guinea Pig

I'm going to raise and eat Ginnie pig, anyone know how to clean and cook them? What should I feed them so they taste better? I'm sure I shouldn't feed them the pellets. I can't find shit on the matter but I know people eat this daily in some countries and I think it would be very cost effective. Any help would be most appreciated
Thanks

Ya know, historians have decided that the guinea pig was probably served at the Last Supper. Was a common staple at that place/time.
ENJOY!!

I saw a show once, about people somewhere in the Andes mountains, who have those growing in their house, and when there plump enought, they go in the oven.

The easiest way to clean it would be to use a knife to cut under the skin all the way around its neck. Then grab the cut skin on its neck with a pair of pliers grip its head with your hand. Now you just "skin" it, you just pull back and peel the skin fur and skin away from the meat. Once you have it completly off you very carefully make a very shallow cut in the middle just under its rib cage. Cut downward all the way to the crotch. Cut with the knife blaid pointing away from the body so you do cut open its intestines because that will smell. Now with a latex glove on your hand (or not if you are hardcore like me) pull its guts out of it.
Now you just rinse it very well and pick all the stuck on fur off the meat.

Oh my God what in the world are you doing you MONSTER!! YOUR A MONSTER!! Your gonna raise and love your guinea pig to eat it? I have 11 of them and I couldnt hurt a single one. Your ALL Ecuadorian MONsTERS! Dont you dare hurt that guinea pig, I will sooo report you!
You can feed them clovers and dandelions from outside. Also they prefer Romaine Lettuce in their diet and Timothy hay. Occasionally give them carrots, tomatos, fruits. I seriously beg you not to kill your guinea pigs, they are great companions if you make them feel safe.

You dont love food animals, that wouldnt make sense. I used to raise rabbits the breeder were my pets and the offspring was my food. You are too emotional of a person to handle seperating the difference between pet and food.
Anyways if you need me to make you a pictorial of how to prepare a guinnie pig fungi_x just send me one and ill git r done.

My moms first husband was from Ecuador, she's been down there for months at a time and ate them. I'll ask her what all they feed them. They taste exactly like quail.

Skin, gut, filet, saute. You won't get much meat though. One tip with the skinning is dunk it in water first. I don't know how their shit is, but if you've ever prepped a squirrel, then you know that fur can be a pain in the ass to get off the meat if you don't soak it first.
As for cooking, I'd say a little and pepper on the meat, and some EVOO, garlic, and shallot in the pan.
Jon - get over youself. people eat animals, and guniea pigs are just that.

I read a story about a guy that killed a guinea pig with dandelions. The thing ate them till it died. But thanks for some diet suggestions I'm still raising them for food

I think it will be. I the hay is cheap and the food will all come from the Indians, I'm native and I can go get free groceries if I say I want some.

I just mean the actual creatures themselves. Where does one buy these, if not at a pet store.

i guess since there has been talk about skinning the guinea pig...it's safe to ask the question, what breed of guinea pig are you looking to eat?
that was my old guinea pig oscar, an abyssinian (characterized by roset patterns in its hair). i suppose he'd be difficult to skin since he's got a lot of hair...
though i'd suggest maybe getting a baldwin guinea pig..? they're completely hairless!
