my bag all the sudden stopped growing the mycilum looks really healthy but isnt spreading through out the substrates, its just formed almost a solid ball in the bag. Should i crush the mycilum up and mix it with the rest of the substrate, theres deffinately moisture in the bag. could the problem be heat or could it still even be moister. so far its been to weeks on a straw substrate im asking this for a friend i got some pics of it but none really captured how its just in one place we mixed the rest of the substrate around the one part anyone have any advice? btw it seems as if the bag is inflating with gases and the mycilium really looks like it formed a pf cake its wierd

Yes, crush up the substrate, it will recolonize quickly. Your using a straw bag? I hope you are not trying to grow cubensis. Gourmet shrooms will grow on straw, but you will be lucky if you get any yield if your growing pc's

who said anything about a straw bag?
i'd mix the myc with the uncolonized substrate and just make sure it's not too compacted together. i've had similar problems with wbs in qt jars. i found my mistake was that i had too much wbs and not enough room to shake thoroughly so the myc growth halted and in time the remaining substrate contam'd. hope this helps

The posts wording is confusing, he does mention straw. A fully colonized mycobag will be like a light compacted brick.

What temperature do you have them at? Mine stopped growing, so I raised the heat and it continued. Mixing the substrate wouldn't hurt...

straw mycobags will not work very well, your yield will suck.My friends pet monkey tried a straw bag-failure. You will be lucky to get one half ass flush, you may want to transfer that colonized substrate to something else.

Theory says(Ive never done a grow like you are doing).
If the bag is inflating it indicates that you have either:
1: No air exchange.
2: An obstructed air exchange.
3: An insufficient air exchange.
Mycellium needs an air exchange or it will stall. My tests have shown that with 0 air exchange, you can get 10-20% growth and then it will stop(depending on how much 'fresh' air was available in the container when you started).
An inflating bag certainly indicates that air is not able to freely move in and out of the bag.
If you DO have an air exchange, and it is not obstructed and is of a reasonable size, you may have a bacterial infestation. Not trying to scare you, but you need to take a look at that air exchange.

This is what mycofactory has to say about the inflating of the bags in the directions for their grain based bags:
"Place the Bag(s) in a dark location and incubate at species specific parameters. It is recommend to store the Bag fully extended as developing Mycelia will give off gases that will slowly expand the interior of the Bag. This ballooning effect is crucial for proper air exchange and culture development."
