If you PC them then loose.
For incubation tight and allow for gas exchange.

Ok I loosened my lids once before putting in PC and they got completely drenched, i'm guessing all the steam got inside and soaked it all.

You should have holes that are taped up, a few of the holes should have
mycelium produces gases that need to be vented. that tape provides that.

wrap the tops w/ tinfoil

ok well thanks , I had them loose with foil covered while I sterelized them only because i didnt want the glass to swell and lock them and make it difficult for the lids to come off for fruiting but thats all i need to know is tight for colonization , see i had heard that you wanted the jars loose for colonization and also heard you want them tight so I was confused I guess Ill just keep them tight then , thanks again

you want the lids on brf/verm jars to be hand tight when you sterilize them.
after you inoculate them it really doesn't matter... since there is a dry Verm barrier on the top.
I've always inoculated and put tape back over the holes... til I get mycelium growth about the size of a quarter. then pull the tape off...and they take off like flies on shit!~
then if your jar stalls... flip it over.
if you can't get the bottom to colonize... smack the lid of the jar against your hand to dislodge the cake away from the bottom of the jar. and leave it upside down...jar lid side down inside your incubator. and it will finish colonizing the bottom part of the cake.

After inoculating leave the tape off, it just makes life a whole lot easier also leaving lids loose allows for even more gas exchange which is also a good thing........really!
