frying shitake
    #5459104 - 03/30/06 11:08 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

So would I be doing a diservice to my little mushroom friends by frying them in the grease left over from about 6 burgers???

Is it worth it to scrape and clean the pan?? will only vegtable oil do?? IYO???

I havent cooked alot of shitake ,..... some of them got banged up a bit, and well they still smell ok, but some of them have dark patches.

So I will fry em, with garlic, and a little bit of salt and pepper, and then eat them, and if they are dipped in any sause at all, it will be very little and off to the side, they wont be covered in  BBQ sauce or anything. :smirk:

That sounds interesting.. I have no idea how it would turn out though as I've never tried it.
I usually cook mine up in a mix of a little bit of butter and lots of soy sauce (or teriyaki sauce) if I'm making them plain or planning to add them to something else.
Also sometimes I add stir fry meat, rice, onions, etc.. Onions and garlic seem to give them some extra flavor as well.
I just find that they taste best with some kind of salty sauce such as soy sauce. Just my opinion though.

The fat you use shouldn't matter if you're frying them.  You'd probably just give them a meaty taste.  And salt them, foshizzle.  :foshizzle:
