egg shells as buffer in casing

How important is it to get all the membrane off the egg shells? I've got 90% of it off, but theres still some, and its extremely difficult to get anymore off as my eggshells are pretty broken.
if i just go ahead and powder anyways, and mix with my 50/50 then microwave, will this increase my chances for contamination?

Egg shells might give a bit of texture, but they won't have time to break down enough to act as a ph buffer in the short lifespan of your substrate. You need hydrated lime or limestone flour. RR

Powderized egg shell has worked great for me I have even gone 6-7 flushes with it so it is there for the long haul. As far as the membrane get what ya can then I use a coffee grinder to powderize after they are dried totally. GL BTW a small amount of hydrated lime should also be used if your using a peat based casing mix to immediately adjust the acidity of the peat.

Most I've seen have just crushed the egg shells. How do you get them powdered? RR

Im going to be using a peat/coir/vermic/oystershell casing. Would be be helpful to add a little bit of egg shell to this casing? Oh ya I cant find any lime around here just yet, hopefully soon with the gardening season starting up.

I'm using jiffy mix, so I hope it's already balanced to close to optimal. It says it has lime added for pH balancing, so I'm thinking if i just add a long term buffer i should be good to go.
