    #5457423 - 03/29/06 09:58 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

In the USA:
Im assuming kratom and salvia anyone else know of some they think will be illegal any time soon? If so you need to be stocking up on seeds or cuttings. So what else is there?!?!

the degree that law enforcement is interested in any particular substance seems to be instigated by the popularity of the substance.

so when ever things become illegal the people will find new things
and one or two of them will become the most popular.
those are the ones that will be banned next.

I know that! Basically I was asking which ones people think are next. Like kratom and salvia, cuz we all know those are being watched and people are trying to make them illegal. What do you guys think will be next?

thats what happens when salvia is sold to anyone with cash now 40x with banana falvour, guaranteed to fuck you up, just watch this video of this dude... i dont think things like salvia extract should be so easy to buy in the first place, but there will always be people that sell out entheogens, sacred plants, to anyone who has cash in name of some quasi shamanism, its more or less the same as pissing on a church to me. of course it will be banned , it should be banned, and leave the entheogens to people who take true intrest in these plants and dont make entheogens party drugs or whatever, when i see banana flavoured salvia extract i think to myself, well it can might as well be banned when its gonna be sold like this.

NO SHIT!  No offence to the younger shroomerites out there, but a bunch of irresponsible teenagers are ruining our spiritual journey.  When people use etheogens as recreational drugs it both kills the spirit of it and jeopardizes the serious seekers religious right to their sacrament. :alert:

Quote:

usa today said:
By Oren Dorell, USA TODAY
A little-known hallucinogenic leaf that is legal in most of the USA is the target of new calls for a ban after the suicide of a teenager who smoked it.
Salvia, a relative of flowering sages enjoyed by many gardeners, is the most powerful natural hallucinogen known ? almost as strong as LSD, experts say.

Known as "diviner's sage," salvia has been used for centuries by the Mazatec Indians in Mexico. In the USA it is sold in leaf and liquid form by websites and head shops and is available to anyone at any age.

"Kids fall into a false sense of security because it's legal," says state Sen. Karen Peterson, a Delaware Democrat. "We control LSD, and we should control this."

Peterson has filed a bill to make Delaware the third state to designate Salvia divinorum a banned substance like marijuana and heroin. Louisiana and Missouri have already taken such action.

Her action came in response to the suicide of Brett Chidester, 17, of Wilmington, Del., whose family blames the drug.

Brett was a straight-A student who ranked top in his state in Spanish and was making plans for college and to buy his girlfriend roses for Valentine's Day, his family says. On Jan. 23 he put a charcoal grill inside a tent in his father's garage, lit the grill and crawled inside the tent.

A suicide note described revelations that echoed descriptions of salvia experiences posted by users to various salvia-related websites. "How can I go on living after I learned the secrets of life," he wrote. "It took me 17 years, but I finally figured it out. I can't tell you that here because that kind of information can cause chaos."

His mother, Kathleen Chidester, says her son bought salvia on a website. His father, Dennis, says police took salvia from his room. Kathleen Chidester says she believes Brett was depressed and used salvia because it was legal. His suicide note left no doubt in her mind that salvia had something to do with his death.

Despite salvia's powerful nature, the Drug Enforcement Administration has not recommended that it be banned as a dangerous drug. The DEA has been collecting information for years on the leaf, says Rogene Waite, a spokeswoman for DEA. The process involves measuring its availability, potential for abuse and medical uses.

"It is a concern and we're looking at it, but just because it hasn't been scheduled doesn't mean it's safe or healthy," Waite says. "It's dangerous from what you can see from anecdotal material."

Research on salvia has found that it causes depressive symptoms in rats and monkeys and dysphoria ? similar to depression ? in people. However, some see the potential for beneficial uses.

Daniel Siebert, who sold his T-shirt business years ago to study medicinal plants, has a website where he offers cautionary information about salvia and sells the leaves and their extracts. Siebert says moderate doses help people meditate and gain insight about their inner selves.

The first time Siebert chewed some of the leaves, he says, he had pleasant visions of "fairy-like beings hovering around the hillside" of his home in Malibu, Calif. When he first smoked the more potent extract, however, he experienced an "extreme disembodied state in another universe" that he says was frightening and unpleasant.

He says he favors "some reasonable controls" but opposes a ban.

So does Bryan Roth, director of the Psychoactive Drug Screening Program for the National Institute of Mental Health. The federally funded program looks for new treatments for mental illnesses.

Roth calls Salvia "the world's most potent natural occurring hallucinogen." He is among several researchers who say salvia may prove helpful in treating disease. The plant produces large amounts of salvinorin A, an "extremely potent hallucinogen," nearly as strong as LSD, that targets a single chemical receptor in brain cells, Roth says. The receptor is involved in "consciousness and our perception of reality," and it is located in neurons that have a role in depression, drug abuse and schizophrenia.

"Many teams of chemists around the world are making salvinorin A for research," Roth says.

Criminalizing salvia and its derivatives would make it "almost impossible" to get salvia-related compounds approved for human use, Roth says.

Nevertheless, Ross says, there should be some regulation. "It probably shouldn't be sold over the Internet to unsuspecting teenagers," he says.

Kathleen Chidester would agree.

In an essay she found on Brett's computer after his death, he wrote that the meaning of the universe "is nothing."

"When I read that I thought, 'That's not him talking, that's salvia," Chidester says.

sorry for no actual link. all i have right now is the quote. if i find the url, ill post it.

edit: nevermind. that news article says nothing about salvia being banned. my bad. i did think it was funny. in a ridiculous way.

Hey there, no offense but name-calling doesn't help the arguement - any word on our spokespeople? We should get OMR on the Daily Show, that would rock. But yeah, LA has a huge list of banned plants from Legal Highs or some such book...

Im not the one who commited suicide and caused all this attention to salvia. It was quite obvious in the first place that it was going toward this anyways. Im not selfish for "not putting up a fight" and "moving on to "the next best thing" I want to get the plants that are soon to be illegal because of the fucking idiots that are causing all the attention to these plants! Call me an asshole whatever but its a fight that WILL NOT be won. Look at fucking weed in the US.

hmm i dont see exactly what you was going to do about the situatin? talk the goverment into not banning these plants? talking ethnobotanical vendors not to sell them to anyone?

only the day when the goverments makes a law so effective that it makes the seeds too scared to germinate or the clones to scared to take roots they will be able to stop them from growing on this planet. until then they are like the church and we are like a bunch of witches and they want to burn us, it doesnt matter what we say or what we do , its a machine we cant control.

where would you speak up? to whom would you speak? and who would listen?

and there is no need for namecalling from anyone.

yes please, namecalling belongs in otd and not the garden

here is the plant i belive will become illegal in usa in the next 5-10 years

salvia divenorium
mitragyna speciosa
san pedro\peruvian torch
all ayahuasca analoges

but im not in usa tho, but things often starts there and then they force the rest of the world to follow somehow. like when they forced the good people of nepal and afghanistan to stop hash production , a tradition that goes houndred if not thousands of years back

the problem is that your to fucking selfish to even cosnider options.
your to buisy blaiming everyone else.

i already answered these questions above, but i guess u guys only read what you want to huh?

and how am i off topic when im saying that ALL ethno's will become illegal very soon if we continue to do nothing?

my point is exactly that: WE decide wich ethno's will become illegal
by our choice of preference and our lack of action.

you will loose the plants in the exact same order that you are a selfish hypochrit towards the ethno's.

DAMN STREIGHT we could have done something!!
the problem is that your to fucking selfish to even cosnider options.
your to buisy blaiming everyone else.

i already answered these questions above, but i guess u guys only read what you want to huh?

and how am i off topic when im saying that ALL ethno's will become illegal very soon if we continue to do nothing?

my point is exactly that: WE decide wich ethno's will become illegal
by our choice of preference and our lack of action.

you will loose the plants in the exact same order that you are a selfish hypochrit towards the ethno's.

There you go with your name calling and flaming again man. wtf?

The boys suicide is what has brought all this attention to salvia. Tell us how you would have stopped him from doing this. My post was INTENDED to help us collectors have a HEADS UP on plants that are SOON to become illegal because of IDIOTS abusing them! NOT a flmaing name calling haven for you!I have a few salvia plants and have NEVER smoked, chewed, or ingested it in ANY way!
