Yes, another HEPA question.

I'm sure the cheaper, smaller ones used for vacuums could be used, theoretically, in sequence, but I was looking at this one.  It's fairly big, but is 99.97% filtration enough?

Basically, I'm not asking for advice with building one (quite yet), 'cuz RR's guide is pretty comprehensive.  I'm just trying to get away with a cheaper HEPA and I'm wondering what sorts of deals I can find, and whether those filters used in other applications are suitable for our purposes...

Yes, 99.97% is fine. The size of that filter will take a large blower, though.

if you make a close sysmtem, i mean the air that comes out goes back in the filter (closed box with small holes for your hands, or sticked in gloves.), it will be perfect! and your hepa will last much longer, and you can skipp prefilters also.

peace!

You mean upwards of 500 CFM?

500 CFM would be the very minimum that I'd consider. That filter has 4 1/2 square feet of surface area. Therefore, a 450 CFM blower will deliver 100 linear feet per minute across your work area assuming no loss. I'd recommend 600 CFM to 900 CFM for that size filter. You can always block off part of the intake if you have too much air, but if you don't have enough air to create proper static pressure in the plenum behind the filter, you won't get laminar flow in your work area.
