Cow feilds are definately better.
Horse seems formost a selcted substrate of inactive Panaeolus mushrooms, Worth a check though. Odds are (i would say) if youre finding them on COW, you'll find a few on horse too, just not as many.

Shrooms are not likely to grow in horse manure...this is why: Horses have stomach acid, cows don't. Cows pass the ingested spores through their 3 stomachs and in the process begin germination. After deposited on the ground the mycelium starts growing and then you have shrooms (given the right conditions). Horses' acid kills the spores.

I just went to 4 different pastures looking for cubes, today around Htown, I have found nothing but in-actives/poisonous ones. It has been too long since my last successful hunt!

Yeah, I'm south of H-Town, I hit up 2 different fields today and found nothing. A few weeks ago when the weather was much cooler I found a good number of caps and now today after 2 days of rain and temps in the 80s I found nothing. Oh well, hopefully it will go better next time.

That is exactly what is throwing me off. Its rained for hours the last 2 days in a row and temps were 70+ with a humidity of 85%+ and yet I still see no mushrooms growing anywhere. I found pounds of them during the winter season and it was much much colder then.

I'm in north tejas and the agaricus bitorquis has begun to come from the packed earth. They are always the first mushroom i see.hence the name spring agaricus. but i have a healthy fear of white mushrooms but brown gills are unmistakable.

its not prime season yet, thus you must have a prime spot. it has been hot and rainy, but not for long enough this year yet. another month of heat and rain will make those buggers grow in the road! not really, but theyll be more abundant.
fyi, im about 4 hours s/e of houston and ive already been balls to the wall offa some wild cubes this season.

What all these finds and no pictures?? Somebodys got to have a camera. And figment the horses stomach acids do not kill cube spores im not sure where you heard that, but it is true that they grow way less in horse fields. The reason being that the cows bovine stomach is like a freakin incubator for colonization.

Just got back from a hunt about 1-1/2 hours west of dfw. I found 4 cubes in cow patties by a tank. They were all about 2 inches tall and had small but full caps. I also found some I can't id. I am going to try to post some pics tomorrow. They were growing on the bottom of a stump of a cut down oak tree. Surrounded by dead leaves and grass (also by a pile of hay). They are completely white except for the stem. It is off white. The cap is thin and slightly wavy with the gills going straight to the stem. Gills are very white also. Completely connected. Any idea's off of the corny description? I will try to post pics tomorrow night.
