Illegal mushrooms seized in Grimes County By KRISTY GILLENTINE Eagle Staff Writer
More than 8 pounds of illegal mushrooms worth an estimated $34,250 were found during a routine traffic stop Tuesday in Grimes County, sheriff's officials said.
Shelly Quinn Stubblefield, 37, was pulled over on Texas 6 near the Brazos County line for speeding and expired registration. A deputy searched the vehicle and found 32 one-gallon plastic bags filled with dried illegal mushrooms, said Lt. Blake Jarvis of the Grimes County Sheriff's Department.
The mushrooms weighed a total of 8.25 pounds.
Jarvis said the mushrooms are used as a hallucinogen and can be picked from fields.
"They [mushroom users] put them in water and boil them to make a tea. The tea has a hallucinogenic effect. Or they eat them," Jarvis said. "They're very common because they are easy to find and the effect is similar to that of LSD or Ecstasy."
Stubblefield was charged with possession of a controlled substance, more than 400 grams, a first-degree felony. He was being held Tuesday on $11,000 bond.
In a separate case, Bryan police received an anonymous tip that led to the arrest of two men who had an illegal mushroom in their home, according to an officer's affidavit.
Officers went to the home of K.Z., 22, and K.K., 21, at about 2 p.m. Monday. In addition to the mushroom, police found marijuana, 16 marijuana pipes, a grinder, a scale and a syringe with a liquid substance believed to contain mushroom spores, the affidavit states.
Zardkoohi was charged with possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces. He was released Tuesday afternoon from the Brazos County Jail on $3,500 bail.
Keeler was charged with possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram, and possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces. He was released Tuesday from the Brazos County Jail on $7,000 bail.

$4,150 a pound for shrooms?
Yet again...law enforcement erroneously picks the absolute highest retail value for individual units (1/8's) and then applies that value to a large wholesale amount.

Haha, how many times now have we seen this combination: Moving large quantity of product, and speeding on expired plates. The only thing missing from this story was a burned out headlight, classic. Be legal, if you're gonna cruise illegal.
