Need advice on truffels (Harvest -w- pics and weight)

I'm harvesting my first batch of truffels tonight. My question is: Is it easier to brush away the grass seed before drying or after drying?
I did a single jar a few weeks ago, and it was a real pain getting all the rye seed off the truffels. I did this before dehydrating them, I haven't tried drying them first.

Mex-A here too.
It was grown with rye grass seed soaked in diluted coffee. I'm harvesting right at 4 months.
I've done 8 out of 12 jars, looks like a good haul I'll post pics when I finish and have it cleaned up.

Will do. I just got through seperating the truffels from the bulk of the seed. Now comes the hard part with a toothbrush... I wish an experienced truffel grower would come along and advise me. I'm looking at at least 3-4 hours of work to clean them up good. Though the truffels are seed free, there's this semi-truffel material that grows thick on the outside of them and it's chock full of grass seed

No, because the seed is imbeded into the material, it's not actually truffle. It's looking like thick mycelium. Growth slowed, and then stopped a week or 3 ago.
I'm just taking a break after 1 hour, it's looking like I have 5 more hours to go I've incorperated tweezers into the process... the going is slow.

Pics will come. It's 3AM here and I'm worn out, gonna stick them in the fridge and finish tomorrow.
I will say this, it's a lot of trouble. It's the perfect stealth grow, but having to clean these little crappers is a real downer... it's a labour of love this time, next time I won't be so gentle

Gourmet to some these here are magic truffels! Mex-A strain. They were grown in quart jars. I used rye grass seed as the substrate. I soaked it in coffee water and PCed... but the top layer was dry, so I dupmed it all out, soaked it again and then PCed again. One thing to note about rye grass seed is that they don't burst and starch up. I'm sure there's a limit to how much stress they can take, but there you have it. The double PC with a soak inbetween really hydrated them well. This could probably be accomplished by boiling as well.
Anyway, I filled the jars 2/3 full, more or less. I used lids with 3/8" holes, some had tyvek on top, some were stuffed with polyfil. Results from the two were similar. It was intresting to watch grow, the largest truffels grew in the side corners, a few grew directly on the bottom, and 4-5 jars exhibited most of their growth ABOVE the substrate. It literally climbed the jar and produced truffels near the lid. Oddly, all jars were prepared in the same manner, and colonized in the same conditions. Multispore I guess.
So here's the pics, final wet weight was 625 grams, though I suspect that a noticable ammount of water was lost during the lengthy cleaning process. I did all 12 jars at once... I should have done 2-3 jars at a time. It took about 4 hours to clean them up, somewhat of a drag.

And here's the largest on display:

SO, 625 grams will dehydrate to 188 grams. Since they're 2/3 the strength of cubensis fruitbodys, this translates out to 124 grams of cubensis, or 4.4 ounces!!!! Not bad, and I have 24 more jars comming in the next couple months. I'm experimenting with a rice substrate with added nutrients, my hope is that they will be easier to clean up than the grass seed.

Yea, drying first probably would have saved a little work... LOL too late now. Plus, I wanted to get good pics while they were still wet.
Oh, I do remember something importaint! After doing a batch (my PC holds 4 jars) I shook them. They didn't shake well, plus they didn't really need it so I didn't shake the others. These had to be the 4 jars that had truffels near the top, above the substrate. Seeds stuck to the glass and lid.
The GOOD think about this is that these truffels required almost no cleanup, and 70% of the truffels in these jars were growing in this manner. Next time I will definantly shake all jars to make sure the mycelium can climb the glass. The biggest truffels were located in other jars, but being able to just pluck out clean truffels is worth a little lower weight.
BTW, my jars averaged 15.66 dry grams each. Anyone else have average weight per jar?

Great job!! +5 for you!
Haven't I seen some sclerotia LC pics somewhere? Can sclerotia be cultivated in a liqiud nutrient bath without the business of a solid substrate?

I happen to have 2 Mex-A LCs that have been sitting at room temp for about 2 months now , no truffels yet. I wasn't trying to grow truffels in it, I just decided to slow down my mush growing mentality, but couldn't bring myself to toss them, so there they sit.
But if it's possible, I'd like to read about it.
