so i found religion today, in the Gita
    #5452695 - 03/28/06 07:32 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

come from strict italian catholic background, but ever since i can remember thinking for myself, the whole "god" thing never really worked for me.  in fact, until a few days ago i had pretty much claimed agnostic / atheist for my entire life.

after closely reading the Bhagavad Gita, I think I found the closest thing to a "bible" as I ever will.  I honestly read it, feeling like I wrote it in my sleep or something, as if someone took all the things that spin around in my head that I cant put words to, and put it all down elegantly, for me to read.

All that being said, I still learn towards the agnostic attitude, because the message is still that "god" can't be known, until all is given up.. and by then, there is no such thing as "attitude" anyways.

I am however, having a hard time understanding the guas.

just thought id share, sorry if this is newbie-ish, but for someone who always liked the discovery and history channel more than cartoons, and always prefered fact to fiction, science to religion.. this book really hit home.

the truth cannot be found in the voice of others, but only found in the depth of your heart. is this what you seek? do you wish to continue your search? if so, i highly recommend you check out the tao-te ching or dhammapada.

yes, I have read Krishna literature before.. in fact i was originally introduced to it from a Krishna on the street, gave me a free book and everything.. i couldnt believe it. cause nothing is free...

and ive read the tao-te-ching before too. Honestly, all of these books are deep and insightful and everything, but nothing has ever hit me like the Gita. I have problems explaining it to myself still.

This is good. It means your information system is less polluted. Your mind. Follow your heart and use your mind. All the books were written some time after the finding of GOD. Seems as though there is a large business running misdirection. Trust in YOU. Not the books. Not until you experience what you are reading.

"...now I am become Death [Shiva], the destroyer of worlds..."

Physicist Robert Oppenheimer, Supervising Scientist of the Manhattan Project
on 16 July 1945 at 0529 HRS,
in the Jornada del Muerto desert near
the Trinity site in the White Sands Missile Range.
... quoting from the Bhagavad-Gita upon witnessing the first atomic detonation by mankind.

The exact quote from the Bhagavad-Gita is:

If the radiance of a thousand suns
Were to burst at once into the sky
That would be like the splendor of the Mighty one ...
I am become Death,
The shatterer of Worlds.

"The Atomic Age began at exactly 5:30 Mountain War Time on the morning of July 15, 1945, on a stretch of semi-desert land about 5 airline miles from Alamogordo, New Mexico. And just at that instance there rose from the bowels of the earth a light not of this world, the light of many suns in one."
William Laurence, New York Times, September 26, 1945

Seems as though if GOD was about to destroy itself because the darker half gained much too much power... Something would be needed to protect the real knowledge. It really has. Hate to say it but bodies come and go. If you believe correct than you realize that they are never really going anywhere. Heaven...?? Sheesh!

The soul of my shoes walked me into treatment. Two weeks. Guess I'll cut down some or just prune wild growth. I hear there is a trellis coming out of the TV. Ya??

Superb reading

I'd also recommend Castaneda, the Yoga Sutras, Be Here Now, Chuang-Tzu, The Tao of Pooh, anything by Alan Watts, Suzuki, etc.
